As the sun began to set somewhere behind the fog we really had the whole place to ourselves. We'd only seen three of four people on the entire walk but now, shrouded by the fog, it was just us.

We picked a rock in the distance as the place to turn around. As we arrived we saw a bald eagle perched on a single tree. He swooped down to inspect us and settled on a tree upon the bluff.

We spent the walk back talking about what we would do when we got home to Brookline. A sign that our vacation was starting to wind down.

Leaving Hoh, Port Angeles and Smoke

We got the big breakfast the next morning on the way north and east to Port Angeles. This drive was the first time we became aware of the smoke and haze from fires that had been burning up in BC.Baca lagi
Drive up to Hurricaine Ridge

We got up not too early and drove up from our campsite to the top of the road and Hurricane Ridge. Here too you can see the remaining smoke obscure the view - but apparently a few days ago nothing wasBaca lagi

Last mountain hike completed

We took a moment to consider that this was the last high elevation hike of the trip. As we reflected on the moment, we also thought mom would like to see just how clean our feet are!
Settling in at Fort Worden

Birthday breakfast

I woke up early and walked up to the coffee shop. It was very foggy and I took a nice walk along the bluff, leaving the kids to sleep in.

We checked out the nice little artillery museum and learned about the history of the fort. I read on the sign that An Officer and a Gentleman was filmed here. That's why it looks so familiar -Baca lagi

We were getting pretty tired - our energy levels are flagging a bit after being on the road so long. But we got through all the main batteries before heading down.
Fort Flagler kites

While google maps said we were 2 miles from our next campsite, in fact if was a 30 minute drive around to Fort Flagler - the second of the three forts that formed the defense of the sound.

Off to the airport

We woke up early and made the 2 hour drive to the Escape Campervan office near the airport. Checking was easy and there were no issues at all.

A day in Seattle

We got to the airport around 12:30 and our flight was the red eye at 9:30 so we had some time to kill.
We stored our bags and took the train into town - about 45 minutes. I read to the kids untilBaca lagi
Flying home

We got back to the airport with plenty of time to spare. The TSA guy who checked our boarding pass before we got to the scanner lanes was hysterical. He totally deadpanned that he needed to see IDBaca lagi
