  • Bullara Station

    28 juillet 2017, Australie ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

What a great place! We stayed 3 nights at Bullara Station and used it as a base to visit Coral Bay. Coral Bay was beautiful but very busy. The caravan parks were packed in like sardines, so glad we stayed away. We went snorkling off the main beach and it was crystal clear with the coral right off the beach.

Bullara Station have really geared up for the campers with great old "donkey" showers as well as newly built gas showers, camp kitchens, coffee garden, walks and 4 wheel drive tracks. They have something on most nights - we had damper night the first 2 nights, and hamburger night on the Friday night which was followed by some guest singers. Met some great people here, swapped details with some and caught up with a couple we met at Cape Range and also a lady we met at 80 mile Beach.

    Beautiful weather again 17-31°

  • Carnarvon

    31 juillet 2017, Australie ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Spent 3 days in Carnarvon at the Oasis Outback Caravan Park. We were lucky enough to be here for Christmas in July so were treated to a teriffic roast dinner with the rest of the park.

Really enjoyed the Space and Technology Museum and OTC Satellite Earth Station. The Earth Station played an Integral part in providing communications for NASA's Apollo Moon project.

Also checked out the Quobba Blowhole, lighthouse, and campground. The blowhole was working well and we saw heaps of whales just offshore.

A lot colder as we travel south 10-22°

  • Wooramel Station

    3 août 2017, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Wooramel Station is a 1430 square kilometre cattle, sheep and goat station with 60 kilometres of Indian Ocean frontage. We had a relaxing 4 nights here camped beside the dry river bed. We enjoyed the hot artesian baths every afternoon followed by a couple of reds around our camp fire. The chainsaw came in handy again cutting firewood from across the river.

Did some 4 wheel driving around the property, exploring the old sheep shearing sheds, shearer's quarters, and checked out the station tip with its myriad of old cars, tractors, washing machines and all sorts of old farm equipment.

  • Shark Bay/Monkey Mia

    9 août 2017, Australie ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

Stayed 5 nights at Denham in an overflow section of the Shark Bay Caravan Park. Very busy around Shark Bay so was all we could get, but actually preferred the overflow as it had plenty of room and ocean views.

Started working as a contractor from here and happy to say it seems to be going well. Just did 2 days to start off with...we'll see how it progresses.

Spent an early morning at Monkey Mia with the dolphins that come in to the beach to be hand fed. Incredible story...rangers only feed them 10% of their diet so that they still learn how to hunt for themselves. Historically, many dolphins perished from losing the ability to hunt for fish after being hand fed too much.

Splashed out on a 3 hour cruise which sailed out of Monkey Mia checking out dolphins, turtles, and dugong in the sea grass beds. Marg even got in the boom net behind the boat on the way home. We had a sunset cruise thrown in, so did that the next day which was fantastic.

Really liked Shell Beach, one of only 2 beaches in the world covered entirely in shells. Spectacular!

Robert & Karen caught up with us here...great to touch base again. Whilst we have to move on, I'm sure we'll be catching up again down the track.

  • Hamelin Station

    11 août 2017, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Had a relaxing 2 nights at the Bush Heritage owned Hamelin Station. Great facilities and provided easy access to Hamelin Pool, home of the Stomatolites - the oldest and largest living fossils on earth. These were quite interesting, although not much to look at.

Also checked out Hamelin Pool Telegraph Station and Post Office as well as the Shell Block Quarry. This quarry used to provide solid building blocks made from the compacted cockle shell local to the area including Shell Beach.

Starting to get a few showers...and cold 8-21°

  • Kalbarri

    14 août 2017, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Booked in to the caravan park at Kalbarri as I'm working for a couple of days a week and we've decided to go "powered" to make things a bit easier. This was the first powered site we've had since Alice Springs in May!!!

We met up with Robert and Karen again and spent a few days checking out Kalbarri National Park. Got the signature photo at Nature's Window, so another bucket list item checked off the list.

Work got a bit hectic, so had to stay an extra day to get things sorted...

  • Lynton Station

    18 août 2017, Australie ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

We're back on grass! This is the first grass camp since South Australia. Hopefully we'll now be able to clean the red dirt out of everything...

We stayed 2 nights at the historic Lynton Station. It was the first convict depot north of Fremantle where 60 convicts were kept to supply labour to a nearby lead mine. Several convict depot buildings still remain and some have been beautifully restored.

We also checked out the Pink Lake, Port Gregory and took a drive out to Hutt River Province where we spoke to the 92 year old Prince Leonard who is still sharp as a tack.

  • Geraldton

    21 août 2017, Australie ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Not much to see here really...a very industrial town, and the biggest town we've visited so far in WA. We restocked groceries, gas bottles, fuel etc then checked out a few sights.

The Geraldton HMAS Sydney Memorial was great. We had a guided tour which was really helpful in understanding the history involved in the WW2 disaster that claimed 645 lives.

Also visited the Geraldton Museum and were lucky enough to visit the Point Moore lighthouse which is only open to the public one day a year, and we fluked it!

  • Mullewa

    23 août 2017, Australie ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

After a hectic couple of days working at Geraldton, we moved inland in search of the famous WA Wildflowers...in particular the Wreath Flower.

After setting up the van at Mullewa, we jumped in with Robert & Karen for the 40km trip out past Pindar to the only location of the Wreath Flowers. They line the sides of the road for about 500m...usually there are a lot more, but lack of rain has stunted their growth.

Had devonshire teas at Pindar Tea Rooms, and checked out Monsignor Hawes church at Mullewa on the way home.

Stayed two nights at a great free camp at Three Springs. Stayed here on the way to Lake Indoon as it has mobile coverage so I could get some work done. Hot showers and toilets supplied compliments of the local council.

Marg checked out the Wildflower exhibition and caught up with some reading whilst I slaved away. Had a great night at the pub on the last night.

Great two night stay at Lake Indoon. Similar to a small Lake Tinaroo, it's filled with wildlife including birds, bees, and dragonflies, as well as wild flowers. We found some different varieties of Spider Orchids, but the Kangaroo Paw has remained elusive.

No swimming or other water based activities as it's full of algae, but a great spot with toilets and cold showers.

Stayed 3 nights at Jurien Bay where we checked out Leseaur National Park, Sandy Cape and Green Head. The wild flowers were a bit more prevalent at Leseaur National Park, so the girls were happy.

Had to do some more work so happy to have 4G coverage to get it all done.

Quite cool and overcast so enjoyed some nice local fish and chips...

What a hidden gem! The only monastic town in Australia. Founded by Spanish monks in 1847 as a mission for local aboriginals, the town has two old boarding schools, flour mill, Abbey Church, wine press, grand hotel and a monastery.

We took a 2 hour walking tour around the town, which was great as we learned the incredible history of the place. We even went to mass on Sunday morning mainly so we could hear the beautiful pipe organ and visiting choir.

Had dinner and cocktails at the hotel and had a great night!

  • Perth

    8 septembre 2017, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Had a great week in Perth! We stayed at a private property on 10 acres just south of Perth which was awesome. This place was VERY social, and we spent a couple of big nights in the communal shed around the fireplace.

Only a 30 minute drive in to Perth where we checked out the city, Kings Park, The Bell Tower, Elizabeth Quay and we did a 2 hour cruise on the Swan River. This cruise took us up to Fremantle and back where we saw all the river-front mansions of Perth's rich and famous. Also spent a day touring the beaches from Fremantle up to Cottesloe, City, and Scarborough beaches...Cottesloe being our favourite.

Much to Marg's disgust, I took her to a guided tour of the WACA. Only four on the tour and really enjoyed checking out the Bradman Room ($3300 per season), the Stump Lounge and the museum. Watched Justin Langer and Geoff Marsh training the WA team while we were there. I think Marg enjoyed it more than she thought she would...

We also took advantage of cheap tuesdays and went over on the ferry to "Rotto" where we cycled 11km around the Island checking out all the beaches, lighthouse and of course the Quokka's.

We loved Fremantle where we had a couple of dinners out, fish and chips at the famous Cicerello's, and did a tour of Fremantle Gaol.

Weather was cold when we first arrived at 4° one morning, but warmed up to 12° - 23°

  • Yarloop - Jenny's Farm Stay

    11 septembre 2017, Australie ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Had a fantastic 3 night stay at this beautiful 100 acre property. Jenny is a real farm girl and was breaking in some horses while we were there which was great to see. We also watched them being branded (with liquid nitrogen). She also had a stallion and a couple of mares in a paddock doing their thing 😉, and a pet sheep who had twin lambs at 48 hours old which were very cute.

We checked out Harvey and Bunbury from here, and drove through the beautiful Ferguson Valley to check out "Gnomesville"...home to over 7000 gnomes.

Had the choofer firing and cooked up a few dampers. Jenny put in a request for a fruit damper which turned out pretty well.

Loved our stay here, and left with some farm eggs and a couple of bags of firewood!

  • Albany

    25 septembre 2017, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

What a beautiful place! We stayed 4 nights at Albany and were lucky to have 2 days of sunshine before the weather turned foul and it was extremely windy and rainy.

While the weather was good we checked out the Natural Bridge, the Gap, the historic whaling station, blow holes, the National Anzac Centre and the Desert Mounted Corps memorial. The National Anzac Centre was awesome and we spent many hours here.

We hunkered down in the van for the following 2 days as the weather closed in. We even had to close the van roof as the wind was damaging the poptop and forcing rain inside.

    Very cold...temperature 6-14°

A great camp with toilets, showers and a beaut communal room/camp kitchen complete with fire place which kept us warm. Fantastic wildflowers here surrounding our van...some of the best we've seen in WA!

Just a nice little beachside fishing village with lots of beaut bays and beaches. Usually lots of whales around but we didn't spot any this time.

Wave Rock was a lot smaller than expected, and really don't know if it was worth the long drive, but checked it off the list nonetheless.

What a beautiful spot! We stayed 6 nights at a farm just outside Esperance which had toilets and shower, and happy hour on the deck every afternoon. Tom, the owner, is a butcher so we bought some organic meat off him (already vacuum sealed) for our trip across the Nullarbor.

I worked 3 days from the van, while we had great 4G coverage. The Great Ocean Drive was the highlight of Esperance. Absolutely beautiful coastline, beaches and bays all with bright blue water and very white sand. Also visited the Pink Lake and Stonehenge - an exact replica of the original in the UK.

  • Cape Le Grand

Wow! Stayed 2 nights at Cape Le Grand Beach campground where we checked out the famous Lucky Bay. Had pretty lousy weather, so it wasn't it's usually self, but beautiful nonetheless. Very white sand and blue water with National Parks surrounding the many bays and beaches in the area. True to form a kangaroo hopped on to the beach at Lucky Bay to say gday whilst we were there.

We also checked out Hellfire Bay, Thistle Cove and even climbed Frenchman Peak. This was a bit more challenging than expected, but a great view from the top. There was a huge cavern at the summit which was formed by the ocean thousands of years ago, and had openings at each side of the mountain so you could see through it...amazing!

  • The Nullarbor

    13 octobre 2017, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We did the Nullarbor in 4 days stopping at 3 free camps along the way. The highlight was the Head of Bight where we were lucky to catch several Southern Right Whales and their calves chilling in the warm waters. This was also a great vantage point to view the Bunda cliffs which were spectacular.

We had an eventful drive across the Nullarbor, with average temps of 9-25°, one day of 39°, and a howling tailwind (luckily), which helped the fuel consumption. On the day of the 39°, we stopped at 4pm and set up camp, only to have someone knock on the door telling us that the authorities had advised everyone to move on as a bushfire was heading our way! That meant a hasty pack up, another 2 hours drive and a very long day...
