• Livorno and day of rest

    June 8 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 72 °F

Today we took a day of rest to work on planning, and took an afternoon trip to the coast to visit Livorno.

We started our day with coffee at the museum in Peccioli- the cappuccinos were good, and the views were incredible!

After coffee we headed back to our Airbnb, and spent the bulk of the day planning our upcoming adventures. We enjoyed leftovers for lunch, and rolled up our sleeves and got a ton planned.

In the late afternoon we took a roadtrip to the coast of Italy to visit the Tuscan port city of Livorno. We explored their newest fort that was added to fortify the city in 1590, and expanded on the fortifications from the original fort. Now it’s been converted into a park on the inside, where the city holds concerts.

After exploring the fort, we checked out the “New Venice” area of Livorno, which is a series of canals meant to be modeled after the nearby city of Venice. It’s a much smaller canal system, but interesting to see all of the waterways surrounding the new fort.

To end our exploration of Livorno we headed to the waterfront, and checked out Terrazza Mascagni, which is a waterfront walking path covered with beautiful checkered stone.

Once we’d had our fill, we headed home and stopped at a grocery store on the way to get ingredients to cook dinner. We called it an early night after, as we have a huge hiking day tomorrow!
