    Visit to the Trafford Centre

September 14, 2015 in the United Kingdom

With Jennie and Zoey still off work, we thought we could meet them for a wander around the Trafford Centre. Rae went up for breakfast with his mum while I stuck with my weetabix and fruit. Trafford centre is only a short distance from Urmston, 10 minutes at most. Costa was the appointed meeting place. Rae and I delighted to at last be able to connect to wifi! However with company, we couldn't really do much.

Kaitlyn's babycino was mostly milk which wasn't received too well! Had a wander around the shops, no one needing to buy anything in particular. Rae went into Gap to look for his cousin who was delighted to see him. Jennie then led us to an Italian restaurant that they liked, where Kaitlyn once again entertained us with her lunchtime antics. Olga wanted to shout but found she had brought the wrong purse, which both devastated and embarrassed her. During the course of the meal, Rae and I found out that Australia had a new prime minister Tony Abbott being voted down by his party in favour of Malcolm Turnbull.

After saying our goodbyes we headed home for another afternoon rest which we all needed, then got ready to go to Jen's for dinner. Couldn't rouse Olga and ended up having to go outside and ring the doorbell! She had been out cold, so said she'd pass. Rae and I could well have done the same! We ended up having a nice night with them, catching the last hour of Kaitlyn's dinner and bedtime before sharing a cheese plate with the girls. Headed home earlyish before we both dropped off. Cant handle this jet lag!

Slept solidly for a few hours before waking and dozing for the rest of the night. At least the coughing has eased a bit. Hope the corner has been turned!

    The County Grill, Urmston

September 15, 2015 in the United Kingdom

Woke in slightly better condition than previous nights, but longing to sleep through! Rae suggested we go back to Trafford centre for a coffee and connectivity. We were due to take Olga down to the County Grill to meet her sister Myra at midday, so plenty of time to get there and back. My phone still causing me grief, so started fiddling around uninstalling things, but not improving it much. Back home we picked up Olga and took her to the appointed place. Sue also came to meet us there, then we wandered around chatting in Sainsburys while Olga shopped. Just went back to Mill Court and sat around talking and keeping her company. Sue left at around 5

I went for a lie own, and Rae went in search of Tony, a nice fellow who unfortunately needs sheltered accommodation because of health issues (muscular atrophy). He was about the same age as Rae, and even had some common acquaintances. His brother in law is the brother of one of Rae's facebook friends.Tony, with sky tv in his room, invited Rae to watch tonight's match over a brew or two or more. So after a feed of chicken, beans and toast with Olga, we made our way down to unit 9, where Tony also gave us access to his wifi. Brilliant!

It was a good night, but I had a few reservations about leaving Olga on her own in her room. She'd had an outing though, and was probably suitably tired. This time Utd weren't winners and lost a key player to injury, by all accounts a bad one!

    Quiet day in Urmston

September 18, 2015 in the United Kingdom

Washing day! Garry offered his washing spot to us, which we really appreciated. So Rae collected our bags of dirties and made his way down to the laundry leaving me to try and pull myself together after my bad night. After the washing had been done, Rae was well and truly ready for breakfast so off we went to Darbys again. Jennie then came over with Kaitlyn, and we had a coffee down in the precinct, meeting Myra again as well as several other people Olga knew. We came back then for Olga to do her own washing, while Kaitlyn once again had a run around. We tried to get her to go to sleep but she would have none of it! At 3.30 we headed off to another pub to meet Colin and Julie. It was nice for Olga to have a night out with her sons, but Julie wasn't happy that Jennie and Kaitlyn were there, and made her feelings known. It was uncomfortable all round.

Needless to say we didn't stay out late and I was ready to crash after my broken night the night before.

    Old trafford & stuff...

June 25, 2017 in the United Kingdom

Went for a tram ride, wandered into Old Trafford cricket oval (guy who worked there let us in). Then toured Old Trafford soccer stadium - pretty cool. Lunch @ a great Italian restaurant, then back to the city for a spot of food shopping, and dinner at Manchester's oldest pub, 'The Wellington'.

    St Bees tomorrow...

    Old trafford

May 1, 2016 in the United Kingdom

    Matchday.

    Manchester United hosting Leicester City.

Is this going to be a three-point game for the Reds, or is Claudio Ranieri getting his first ever trophy?

We arrived at the stadium at around 1 pm. The crowd began to show up close to 2 pm; the game kicked off at 2.05 pm.

Anthony Martial's early goal put United in the lead, but Fox' captain Wes Morgan equalized before half-time and the scoreline remained until the end of the game.

Leicester City are not yet champions; it still has to be determined by the game between Spurs and Chelsea.

Winning or losing did not matter too much; it is the atmosphere that impressed me the most. The fans - home and away - supported their teams by chanting and cheering all along the game. It was a non-stop ninety minutes. When the away players leaved the pitch, the home fans applauded for them as well.

The Leicester fans were singing even after the game; yet they deserved to be that excited - they were so close to being the champions.

    Wish the Foxes luck.

    Heading back to London.
