Friday morning greeted us with disappointing weather, as the diminishing outer bands of Tropical Storm Francis made their way into western Missouri. The skies were a heavy, brooding gray, and light drizzle dampened the start of the day. We weren’t in a rush, though. Denise, Jody, George, and I grabbed breakfast and kept an eye on the radar, hoping for a break in the weather. By the time we finished eating, the rain had cleared out, but the skies remained a dull gray. Despite that, the cooler, crisp air made for perfect riding weather—just chilly enough to keep us comfortable without any harsh sun bearing down on us. We set out to explore the twisting roads around the Lake of the Ozarks, not knowing what kind of ride the day would bring. The damp roads and misty morning gave everything an almost cinematic feel. As we rode further around the lakes, the landscape opened up into a series of thrilling curves and sudden drops that made the ride absolutely exhilarating.
The roads wound like ribbons, wrapping tightly around the hills and hugging the lake’s edge. Each turn revealed new views: mist hanging low over the water, trees lining the roads, and the mountains looming in the distance. At times, Denise rode just ahead of me, and I could see her leaning into every curve, her bike flowing effortlessly with the road. It was one of those rides that you feel in your chest—each twist and turn sending a rush of adrenaline through you.
We hit stretches where the road seemed to disappear, only to twist sharply downhill in a way that made your stomach drop. Riding through those turns felt like we were gliding, our bikes responding to every lean with precision. Every time I rolled on the throttle, I could feel the power of the bike beneath me, pushing us forward into the next curve.
The lakeside roads offered just the right combination of thrill and beauty. With the lake’s mist lifting as the day wore on, we found ourselves surrounded by nature in its rawest form—untamed, rugged, and absolutely breathtaking. By midday, the roads had dried completely, and the ride just kept getting better. We stopped to check out some sites along the way before we hit the road again.
By the time we stopped for lunch, we were buzzing with the excitement of the day’s ride. It wasn’t the sunniest day, but it didn’t need to be. The grey skies and misty morning set the perfect stage for a ride we won’t soon forget.
