      Pintler Scenic Drive

      September 23, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

      June 28, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

      Lady of the Rockies

      September 23, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Wir fahren bis Drummond und wollen uns "Our Lady of the Rockies" ansehen. Es ist mit 26 m Höhe die drittgrößte Statue in den USA. Wir stellen allerdings schnell fest, daß man hier abgezockt werden soll. Da machen wir doch lieber von der Landstraße aus ein Foto. 🤔😅Read more

      Missoula, MT

      July 20, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Missoula, l’une des plus grosses villes du Montana et très universitaire. C’est sympa pour déambuler quelques heures, mais à notre goût il n’y a pas de quoi y passer la journée.

Missoula, one of the biggest city in Montana, and known for its university. It’s nice to hang around for a couple of ours, but in our opinion, it’s not enough to spend the whole day here.

Trek America - Seattle to Missoula

      May 16, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Today was the first day of our Trek America tour and we peeled ourselves out of our last proper bed for 2 weeks to begin this next part to our adventure. Despite the early alarm (5.30am) we were both very excited to meet the rest of our group and start the day.

We met most of the group at breakfast and the rest when meeting our tour leader as not everyone had stayed in the same hotel the night before.

Our tour leader/driver is Emily, who advised that this was her 2nd summer as a tour leader. The group is made up of 7 women and 3 men including us. The group (aside from us) are all solo travellers and have their own unique story of why they are travelling.

We had a huge distance (450 miles) to cover on the first day to our first stop at a camp site in Missoula so there was plenty of opportunity to get to know the other members of the group. Kim chatted to some of the women in the mini bus that will take us from place to place on the tour whilst Alex met the other men. Here is a brief rundown of our group.

Jade, 27 years old from Australia, is backpacking for nearly a year and has been since early February. Jade booked on the tour only two weeks prior its start, having already travelled in New Zealand and Canada as well as down to Las Vegas and LA in a motor home with 3 other people. After the tour Jade plans to continue travelling to South America before returning home for Christmas.

Katie, 22 years old from Milton Keynes. Katie arrived in Seattle the evening before our tour and she leaves the day our tour finishes as unfortunately she could only get two weeks off work. Katie rides horses back home and is excited to try western style riding once we reach Jackson as this is one of the optional extra activities we can do there.

Lowrie, 21 years old from Cardiff, who has been studying at college (university) in Ohio for the last year on an exchange programme. Lowrie enjoyed her time studying and got to meet lots of new people. She has also had the chance to see a little of America during college breaks but wanted to do this trip before returning home.

Anne, 21 years old from Dublin. Like Lowrie, she has been studying on an exchange programme and has many stories about her experiences of college life to tell. She told us about college frat parties, which are just like in the movies, where there are kegs of beer and 100's of people attending. She told us that the boys have to pay $500 to enter into the frat and it is this money that pays for all the alcohol.

There are two other girls, Sophie, 19 years old from Germany who is taking the tour as part of her gap year from education and Kim, 36 years old from South Korea. Alex is pleased to not be the old man of the group but she looks more like 21 with her smooth wrinkle free skin. Kim works as a computer programmer and speaks little English.

The males on the trek are Seokgyeong from South Korea and Matti from Finland. Seokgyeong has been studying physics at Berkley University in the U.S. and he joined the trek as a break after his exams. Matti is using his holiday from work for the trek and will be going for a week's surf school in LA after the trek.

Thanks to Emily we made great time, arriving at the campsite in Missoula by 6:30pm, an hour sooner than any group previously. We pitched our tents and used a gas stove to make a quick dinner of spaghetti and salad.
It was not long before everyone retired to their sleeping bags as we had to be up and back on the road by 7:00am at the latest the next day with a 5 hour drive to Yellowstone National Park ahead of us.

Taxidermy appears to be a booming industry. We stopped at a camping/hunting store with a huge central display of dead animals including a polar bear killed in 1971.

      Day 15: Missoula

      June 28, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

Just a little bit too tired to explore downtown Missoula, that's the reason why I just post pictures of the high temperatures (note celcius and the time!!) and some delicious Quesadillas and burger I had. Of course I was unable to finish it, like usually.Read more

      Day 16, May 24

      May 24, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

      Missoula Montana
Mayers left Gardiner shortly after 7 this morning, we followed at 10. We had a drive of about 4 hours, very uneventful. However, it was very beautiful scenery along the way.

Crossed the continental divide at 6393'

Saw some cool rock formations as we were entering Butte where we had lunch at Sparky's Garage as recommended by a bartender at a bar we stopped at on main Street. Finding the average price of a restaurant meal whether breakfast, lunch or dinner is averaging $30-$40 USD for 2. We're trying to eat at least two meals of the day at home, one meal at a restaurant (McDonald's for breakfast counts as a home meal 😁).

      Ate at home tonight.

      Hotel info:
Checked into the Motel 6 University. Seems OK. We got a suite with a queen bed and a kitchenette. Happy we were planning on maybe doing some camping as it means we have kitchen stuff... Absolutely nothing for pots, plates or cutlery is provided, not even a tea cloth.

      No coffee pot, no Kleenex

No extra pillows, but we brought some.

Good thing we brought an extension cord, closest plug to the bed can not be considered close in any way.

Pet friendly, no smoking hotel. Rooms are smoke free and pet-smell-free. However, outside the rooms in the walkways there is pet hair everywhere.

Information says there is guest laundry but it's a block away at another Motel 6. If we were to come back to Missoula I'd try another place over staying here again.

Kitchen lights and bathroom fan are thick with dust.

We got home yesterday and room was not made up. Called front desk and asked if we would get housekeeping while we are here. Answer was, "I don't know, and quite frankly I'm more concerned that we have 40 check ins to worry about tomorrow". I was told that if I brought my (threadbare) towels to the front desk they would give me clean ones...Room was not made up today either. (I also heard that one housekeeper quit yesterday). Seems to me a hotel should be prepared to look after a full house, no?

I've said earlier that the mark, I feel, of a quality hotel is that they give you 4 towels instead of 3. Here they give you 2.

However, the kitchenette is saving us money, as is not having to tip housekeepers.

4th day they changed towels and removed garbage. Didn't sweep and didn't make bed. But they did take the tip!

      India Grill and Curry House

      May 28, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

      400 East Broadway, Missoula

      Quick and delicious.

Cafeteria style, meal served on tin sectioned plates.

$12 for rice, naan, piece of tandoori chicken, choice of vegetable curry and a meat curry (purely vegetarian was slightly cheaper), salad and rice pudding. More than enough food. If we go again we will share one dinner and get an extra naan bread.

Owner and cook was very entertaining.

      Not open Sunday.

Morning session 3551. Somewhere between 16&21 baptized (no formal announcement of actual number made today)

Drama was a highlight, again. Bring your tissues, again.

There was a 35 minute talk after. They actually replayed bits and pieces of the drama and drew conclusions and lessons from it.
