Unsere Autofähre ging von New London nach Long Island.
Deswegen haben wir uns von Hyannis auf den Weg nach New London gemacht.
Die Tickets hatten wir auf der Fahrt gebucht.
Ich habe ein bisschen geschlafen und als ich aufgewacht bin waren wir auch schon da.
Viel von New London konnten wir nicht sehen, denn unsere Fähre war schon bereit.
Deswegen sind wir direkt dort drauf gefahren und uns dazu entschieden auch da zu essen.
Die Fahrt dauerte über eine Stunde und war auch sehr entspannt.
Vorallem am Deck konnte man die Fahrt und das wunderschöne Wetter genießen.
Auf Long Island angekommen hatten wir auch direkt einen schönen Blick auf den Strand.
Interessant war eine Insel, die wir auf der Fahrt gesehen haben.
Ich weiß zwar nicht viel aber Papa hat erzählt dass sie streng geheim und unzugänglich für Zivilisten ist.
Hier werden angeblich Tier-Seuchen untersucht und wahrscheinlich auch andere biologische, gefährliche Experimente durchgeführt.Read more

A very nice afternoon. We tried to bowl again, but the location, though listed as "open now" on Yelp, was decidedly and seemingly forever closed. We spent some time in a used book store, walked across the big sandbar that leads out of Niantic, though it mostly feels like a regular road. Saw a drawbridge with train tracks, which looks a little scary when it's up. Also a street sign that made Nate laugh, a flower tower, and the trip's coolest roadkill. Went to a crunchy, organic market to pick up a dinner picnic, which we ate in the hotel. We bought a big bag of sugar snap peas, so I'm feeling less vegetable-deprived.Read more

Submarine Force Library and Museum

I found this place in my Google searching. Museum was ok. Going inside the submarine super awesome. I was astonished by how small a lot of the living quarters are. Yes I know it makes sense when you think about it, but seriously being there, it was tiny. I would never want to be sleeping there and accidentally wake up with a bad dream because I would get a pounding headache as well. And there was a pinning ceremony, so lots of guys in uniform.Read more

Mystic Seaport, Connecticut

We decided to take a break from driving and stay an extra day in the Mystic Seaport area. Jean spent the morning in Historic Downtown Mystic (From earlier in the trip the term "Historic Downtown" means shopping.) I spent the morning at the Mystic Seaport Museum where there are recreations of historic buildings, actual ship restorations in progress, maritime exhibits and hands on displays and a staff that will stop the project they are working on to answer questions. They are currently restoring the Mayflower ll. It is in dry-dock and a crew of about 10 are working at the actual ship with an estimated additional 20 people in various shops making replacement parts.
We both went to the Nautilus submarine exhibit. We toured the sub and spent time looking at the sub displays showing the history of the sub fleet.Read more
