Disembarking from the Dover-Calais ferry at 4am we needed somewhere nearby to pull up and rest our weary heads. Reached via a narrow and undulous road, the Village of Saint Joseph, just 17km from the port, provided the perfect spot. We pulled into the long roadside parking area and crawled into bed, only emerging around midday. We weren't disturbed by any road noise, but the sound of heavy rain thrumming on the roof wasn't conducive to a sound night's sleep for Vicky.
When we opened the curtains, much of the ground lay submerged under massive puddles, so we didn't go out and explore. Instead we took a slow start to the day, with coffee and scrambled eggs on toast for Will and tea with toast and Sarah's homemade marmalade for Vicky.Read more
