  • Wine Tasting

    July 30, 2025 in France ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

I decided to do a wine tasting. It was outside of Strasbourg, so I had to take the train. It was beautiful there. I got 5 samples and a tour of the winery. I ended up buying one bottle. They have one barrel that was made for the 1900 (i think) World Exposition!
The white bottle shaped thing is a bubble wrap package that is shaped for transporting winr bottles (and it's reusable!)

I got a Munster Flammeküche for my main meal, and an apple flambée'd in calvados and cinnamon Flammeküche for dessert.Read more

  • Last Stop

The last top on the tour was to see a "public" high school in the area. This school was public, but it had requirements in order to get into it. One of the requirements is that students must score high enough proficiency in multiple languages (in addition to their native language - French). The guide said that usually, family with extensive travels or diplomatic careers usually are the ones who get in, making it basically a private school. He called it Frog-warts (like Hogwarts in Harry Potter, but with frog because of France).Read more

  • Bartholdi Museum - Part 1

    July 31, 2025 in France ⋅ 🌩️ 73 °F

One of the two things I wanted to do here was see the Frédéric Bartholdi museum. He is the designer of the Statue of Liberty. They had a lot of scaled down versions of his work, as well as some possible alternative designs for works. I saw the Lion of Belfort there. I want to see that still. I didn't quite have enough time to take a train out to Belfort to see it though.Read more

  • Hôtel Camille

    July 31, 2025 in France ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

All checked in. Because i used points and a free night, there are 2 reservations: one for tonight and one for Friday and Saturday. Ideally, I'd like to keep the same room. They said I could keep the same room, but it's small. Or I can switch after the first night and get a slightly better room (there is only the one open tonight). So I'm going to do the switch. We'll see if it ends up being worth it.
This is an example of an old-fashioned French elevator. Very small...lol It says it can hold up to 3 people, but the total weight need to be 225kg or less. To put that into pounds, there can be 3 people in the elevator weighing (including bags) 165 lbs each. The total weight allowed is 496 lbs.

  • I Love You

  • Montmartre

    August 1, 2025 in France ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

Off to Montmartre and the Sacré Cœur Basilica! I've been here a ton, but it's just so amazing to see, I have to go back. I took the funicular instead of walking up Paris's "mountain" this time....lol

  • No Cash Allowed

    August 1, 2025 in France ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

I stopped at a Crêpe place for lunch in Montmartre. Good thing I have cash on me because this place is a card only restaurant. Really good food! I got a savory crêpe and a dessert one :-)

I can finally see the Eiffel Tower! I've missed it!

  • Cimetière du Père-Lachaise

    August 1, 2025 in France ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

I went to the Père-Lachaise Cemetery for a couple of reasons. One, because everybody always asks if I went and saw Jim Morrison's grave. Two, a lot of other reqlly famous people are buried there. But three, it is talked about in a book we read in my French classes, so I wanted to take some pictures. I'll update later with a list of famous people I know of who are there.Read more

  • Luxembourg Gardens

    August 2, 2025 in France ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

When I studied here in college, this was my favorite place to relax, decompress, listen to some music, and people watch! Lots of statues and small monuments in here. They also have a tennis court, playgrounds, restaurants, (fixed in place) food trucks, and you can even ride horses (or maybe they were ponies, not sure)!Read more
