The volcanic minerals were chemically altered by heat and water, with variable amounts of oxygen and introduced elements.     Yesterday was a travel day. Today we took it easy. And by easy I mean, laundry, some car service, golf range and a run. Went for a walk early evening in downtown Palm Springs.

    Joshua Tree National Park

    Went for a couple walks in Joshua Tree National Park. The vegetation in the south end is sparse. The north has Joshua trees and a variety of 🌵

    Run and golf day. Drove to Indian Palms golf course with Paul. He didn’t take any pictures. 🤷‍♀️ and I ran from there back to the campground. I’ll insert a pic I took from yesterday’s trail run which overlooked a golf course 😀. Heading to San Diego tomorrow for a few days. Hopefully we beat the holiday traffic. 🇺🇸 Thanksgiving on Thursday.Read more

    Drove to San Diego today through some nice areas in the mountains. Still some fall colours happening. Traffic was light on the eve of 🇺🇸 Thanksgiving. We did avoid interstates and took more of a scenic drive.Read more

    Went for some beach walks at Del Mar, Torrey Pines State Park and La Jolla cove. Lots of people out enjoying the 🌞 on 🇺🇸 Thanksgiving.

    We walked our feet off today. Went to Balboa park which is a 1,200-acre historic urban cultural park. After that we (thankfully) drove closer to the waterfront and went to Seaport village and the Gaslamp Quarter.. More walking. Finished with dinner in an Irish ☘️ pub.Read more

    Our days in Arizona will be a little more laid back not having to travel. There’s plenty of trails right from the campground. Of course the golfer will need to get out to the ⛳️ once in a while.

    Went to some local events today. In the morning there was an outdoor Christmas market just across the road from the park. Paul took a pass on this one 😂🙄.

    Mount Lemmon

    Took a scenic drive up to Mount Lemmon. It was 86km one way from our campsite. The other option was a 20k hike with 2200m of gain. 🤪 and then back down.
    The elevation of Mount Lemmon is 2795m and is the most southern ski area in continental 🇺🇸. There was some snow but nowhere near enough yet to ski.Read more

    Paul remembered to take pictures today while golfing.
    I went for a run just before sunset when we got back to 🏕️. Love that golden hour lighting 🌆

    Saguaro National Park

    The day started out a cold -4C at the 🏕️. The outside water taps were frozen. Thankfully we have heat in the trailer and the day did warm up to 20C.
    We spent a few hours at Saguaro National Park. It is split into two so we went to the part West of Tucson. This is our 7th National Park since we left Calgary at the end of October.
    (The app adds the temp and weather based on location and time. I guess this is what you call a cloudy day in Tucson 😂)    Read more

    Tucson Street Fair

    Haven’t posted in a few days. Just up to our usual, golfing, running and hiking.
    Yesterday we went to a street fair in downtown Tucson. (Dog pic 😂) There were lots of vendors selling stuff we don’t need or have room for and overpriced fair food. We ate lunch before we went. There was live music and a street performer. Only 1 and we missed his act. We thought there would be more buskers.
    I noted the crowd was maybe 50/50 men and women. It was called a street fair. Last weekend I went to a Christmas market. Maybe 20/80 men and women 😂    Read more

    Biosphere 2

    Biosphere 2 was a three-acre sealed structure that was used for two closed-system experiments: 1991 to 1993 and March to September 1994. The experiments encountered several problems, including: Low food and oxygen levels, Animal and plant die-offs, Interpersonal tensions among the crew.

    Today it is a laboratory with active research systems from ocean to desert environments.

    Some pics from yesterdays run and todays hike.
    Was up early today to volunteer at the Tucson marathon, earning some race credits.

    Came back and we were ready to go for a geology guided walk but it got cancelled. Will have to try again in January when we are back in the area.
    So we went for a short hike after lunch.
    Soaking up the sun before we head ✈️ back to 🇨🇦 for Christmas later this week. Haven’t seen a cloudy day or rain since early November.    Read more
