    Day 99: Crossing the border

Hoping for better weather, we finally arrived in Greece. After a month in Albania, we are now happy to continue southwards.
The border crossing was relatively easy and took hardly any time at all.
    Very beautiful border near Permët.

    Day 99 - 103: First arrival

After crossing the border at Permet, we found an abandoned farmhouse nearby where we were allowed to stay overnight. It was a great location for exploring Vikos National Park. We liked it so much that we stayed for four days and went on lots of hikes. We can highly recommend the farmhouse; the owner was extremely friendly and the sanitary facilities were excellent. The farmhouse did not charge for accommodation or laundry; everything was based on donations.Baca lagi

Day 102: Vikos Canyon Part 2

Our first real highlight in Greece, and what a highlight it was! Vikos Canyon is breathtakingly beautiful. We didn't make it into the canyon itself (we weren't keen on the climbing involved), but we did visit several secret viewpoints and admired the gorge from different angles. We also visited the Stone Forest. Great hiking opportunities.Baca lagi

    Day 104: What a spectacle

Meteora is beautiful through and through. The rock formations, the location of the monasteries, the monasteries themselves, the landscape – simply breathtaking. So beautiful that words fail me. We started our hike for the day in Kalambaka. Three monasteries and almost 20 kilometres later, we were completely exhausted but thoroughly satisfied with the day and what we had seen. The sunset at one of the viewpoints wasn't particularly spectacular that day, but it was definitely a must, as the feeling at that point was indescribable. Meteora – one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.Baca lagi

    Day 110: First time stuck

We decided to head to a very remote and secret beach for the night. No sooner had we arrived than we got stuck and the battery died. It was a bit annoying, as we were very isolated on this beautiful beach and there was no one else around. Without the energetic help of local fishermen during the night, we would never have got out of there... What a mess, what a night... Thanks again to Stelios and his boys for patiently pulling us out 👍Baca lagi

    Day 111 : Towed away!

After the disaster during the night, we were forced to drive on. We found a spot under some trees right by the sea near the beach where we were stuck 🌊
Unfortunately, our alternator was broken and we had to be towed away the next morning. We drove non-stop to Katarini to Alexis Car Service.Baca lagi

    Day 111 - 112: Wait, wait, wait

When we arrived at the garage, we had to wait. On the first day, they just looked at the car and tried to diagnose the fault. Due to the language barrier, the garage didn't understand that the damage was to the alternator. So they decided to continue looking for the fault the next morning. This meant that a mechatronics engineer had to be called in. After three seconds, he confirmed what we already knew – the alternator was defective. The garage was able to repair the damage with a new alternator. Unfortunately, a number of mistakes were made during the troubleshooting process, so we now have to live without a heater.Baca lagi

After two days at the car service, we were back on the road. We had to drive for at least an hour to fully recharge the starter battery. That's how we ended up at Kalochori Lagoon in the evening. Day 113 - 117: Lost campsite 🏕️

After a day at the seaside, we found a really great spot to spend the night a few kilometres further on. An abandoned campsite that doesn't look abandoned at all. The cabins are still standing everywhere and even the electrical appliances such as refrigerators and ovens have simply been left behind. It's amazing what can happen in such a short time. According to records, the campsite was still active and well frequented in 2022. Understandable, given its great location. Now, no one has taken care of it for years, which doesn't really help the nature. For locals or campers like us, it's an ideal place to stay. We stayed for four nights :)Baca lagi

There we met a really great traveller. Maurilo, 56 and travelling by bicycle, was great company. Because of this, we stayed for two days. We spent a lot of time with Lilo, chilling by the sea, shopping and cooking. We did everything together during that time. Hopefully we'll see him again sometime! Lilo is a really great person.
