      Kilkenny

      Montagabend war ich entspannt mit ein paar Leuten chinesisch essen, das war wirklich genial und vor allem viel für Normalpreis hier. Anschließend sind wir - mit viel Überzeugungskraft meinerseits noch ins Diceys gegangen, wo ich allerdings auch mein erstes schlechtes Bier erwischt habe - bei 2€ nicht verwunderlich.. und ja das Bier war wirklich schlecht und nein mir ging es nicht schlecht danach 😂☝🏼
      Für Dienstagabend hatten wir uns vorausschauend schon einen Tisch im Camden Sports Pub reserviert.. natürlich ganz vorne vorm riesigen Bildschirm 👀
      Dort haben wir das CL-Spiel geschaut und waren anschließend im "normalen" Pub direkt im Nebenraum bei Livesmusik und haben schon die erste aus unserer Gruppe verabschiedet 😭 aber der Abend war super schön und schon so ein bisschen die Stimmung, wie sie am Ende von so etwas ist
      Am Mittwoch hatte ich dann erstmal den Spaß, mit meinen Deutschkenntnissen einen Kälte-/Wärmeregler auf dem Dach zu dolmetschen, weil es die Anleitung nur auf deutsch gibt.. gut dass das in meiner Hand liegt 😈
      Der Rest der Woche war dann erstmal entspannt, ich habe viel mit den Ösis Mittag gegessen und Kaffee geholt, um sie noch zu sehen. Die nächsten zwei Wochen schreiben sie nämlich Klausuren und sind dann auch weg :(
      Ich bin auch wieder viel laufen, weil ich mich für Juni jetzt für den Halbmarathon in den Mourne Mountains angemeldet habe.. ist noch ein gutes Stück bis zur Top-Form 🙈
      Deswegen war ich am Donnerstag auch mit einer Kollegin bei einem Lauf-Club und sind in einer Gruppe da sehr langsam am Kanal entlanggejoggt.

      Am Samstag sind wir dann in den "interessanten" Film Challengers gegangen.

      Sonntag war dann das Highlight der Woche bei bestem Wetter: Kilkenny. Mit Chamara wollte ich eigentlich auf einen Food Market dort gehen aber wie wir dann herausgefunden haben ist der Kilkenny Food Market nicht in Kilkenny (wie soll man auch anders denken) sondern eine halbe Stunde außerhalb, wo kein einziger Bus hinfährt 🤦🏼‍♂️
      Aber Kilkenny ist zum Glück auch super schön und nach einem kurzen Besuch im kostenlosen Kunstmuseum, sind wir durch die Stadt gelaufen, uns das Schloss von außen angeschaut und lange durch den wirklich riesigen Schlosspark gelaufen und guten Salat und Pizza gegessen. Ein Kilkenny Bier durfte natürlich nicht fehlen. Am Ende haben wir uns noch in Kaffee direkt am Fluss gesetzt und haben geredet. Ein wirklich schöner Tag, auch wenn nicht so wie geplant.       Day 322

      Dia duit Éire! (Hallo Irland!)

      Die Überfahrt war ruhig und wir sind pünktlich in Rosslare angekommen. Erstes Ziel war Kilkenny, wo wir auf einem einfachen Campingplatz unser Zelt aufbauen konnten. Eigentlich dachte ich, wir könnten uns Abends noch die Stadt ansehen, stattdessen haben wir uns sehr lange, sehr nett mit Ana und Liam, einem Paar aus Irland, unterhalten. Offensichtlich sind die Iren ähnlich herzlich wie die Franzosen und zusätzlich fällt die Sprachbarriere weg.
      Aufgrund der Zeitverschiebung (Ihr seid uns eine Stunde voraus.) war sogar Jörg heute morgen früh wach und wir konnten uns schon vor 10 Uhr auf den Weg in die Stadt machen.
      Ob im Museumsshop (Wir waren auf der Suche nach Aufklebern.) oder im Restaurant (Wo wir ein irisches Frühstück genossen haben.), die Iren unterhalten sich gerne, besonders über das Wetter, was heute wirklich besonders schön ist. Die Kellnerin sagte, sie hatten hier 4 Monate nur Regen, vielleicht haben wir ja Glück und die Sonne bleibt länger.
      Nachdem wir diverse Souveniers gekauft hatten, sind wir zum Kilkenny Castle gelaufen, nachdem wir die Schlange am Eingang gesehen hatten, haben wir nur von außen Bilder gemacht, um dann dem Musiker vor dem Schloß zuzuhören. Die Musik gefiel uns, wir haben ihm ein paar CD´s abgekauft und uns noch nett mit ihm unterhalten.      Read more

      Day 4 Glendalough

      Oh...my...goodness...driving! Eeeek! But we made it to Kilkenny after a fun day in Glendalough and driving part of the Sally Gap in the Wicklow Mountains. And we had to see the bridge from the movie "P.S. I Love You."

      In Glendalough, there was a 110-foot round tower, a standard feature in monastic settlements, rising from a tangle of tombstones. Here, too, are ruins of a cathedral. We took a walk through the woods to the very picturesque lower and upper lakes in this area, all a part of the Wicklow Mountains National Park.

      We got to our twin bed room for the night by going up and down 55 steps, with luggage, at the Clubhouse Hotel (formerly a gentlemen's sporting club).      Read more

      This morning was another scenic drive from Cork through Waterford to the city of Kilkenny (pop'n 20000). Rolling green farmlands, villages, farmhouses, sheep, cattle, horse studs and old castles and buildings - the morning had it all. And it was a warm, sunny and cloudless sky.

      Kilkenny, on the River Nore, has a 13th century Norman castle. The Normans were invaders from Normandy in France.      Read more

      Last day in Ireland

      Early morning May Day run in to the town and back, shower then whilst eating brekkie we watched the ravens and robins coming down very close to the van to eat the bread I had put out for them. Very delightful.
      We drove in to the town to visit Kilkenny castle. Nice change to see a castle that isn’t derelict. Although it’s over 800 years old, it has been restored to a Victorian period. Started to walk the grounds but it started to rain so we left and wandered the high street picking up a tshirt souvenir from the pub we’d been to the night before then headed onwards slowly weaving our way back to Dublin.
      We picked a route that went through the Wicklow Mountains, the road is an old military road that takes you through a vast rural, wilderness of scrubland where ever you look you can’t see anything man made (apart from the road). It was amazing and yet another diverse scenery and experience. We eventually arrived at the south of Dublin at a sandy cove, a lovely scenic end of Dublin where lots of locals were swimming. There’s an area called Forty Foot (no one knows why) but it’s a 250 year old swimming/changing point into the clear waters of the Irish Sea. We didn’t dip this time but maybe another day… was quite busy especially as it was sunny again - did I say how very lucky we’ve been?! We even saw an elderly man walk out of his house across the road to the cove in just his swimmers, goggles and hat! Good for him. As we were walking we also spotted some seals in the sea and a heron wading in the shallow waters.
      We walked up to the high street in my last search of oysters/Guinness. Been keeping an eye all round the island but not had the opportunity, Dublin is usually good for these. Found a lovely restaurant doing the oysters so was very happy though no Tabasco sauce, shame. They were great though plus we also ate dinner there too. Was a lovely last meal in Ireland.
      We drove on to our stopover where we had stayed when we first arrived. Another campervan pulled up next to us so we chatted to them for a bit. They are from Denmark or Norway, we couldn’t work out but they are taking a year or so out to travel Europe. They’d already done (wet) Cornwall for a month and planning on doing Ireland for a month then back around Britain before heading in to mainland Europe. Sounds brilliant.
      Watched the last episode of MAFS, last bit of drama in our lives then to bed listening to the rain.      Read more

      1st stop this morning was in Kilkenny. We checked out the castle grounds and learned about Irish history and culture. A lot of Irish limericks have come out of Kilkenny. Here is one that we wrote for the tour group:

      “On the "Britain and Irish Delight" bus,
      Canadians, Yanks, and Aussies, no fuss,
      With Gino, our guide,
      We laughed and we cried,

      Kilkenny Shenanigans

      We had a blast in this town. One of the great memories was my desire to find the walled city. We were actually already there! Bwhaha! The video says it all!
      I was able to attend my very first book signing! Grabbed a book as a gift. So cool.

      This is a touristy place that is a must! Delish. The bathrooms were 3 stories up. Yikes! The fans were all connected on a pulley system original to the building.

      Kilkenny Castle

      Kilkenny Castle was right behind us. We could see the Castle from mom's room. It was very impressive. There were some old tapestries from over 600 years ago! Beautiful! Highly recommend this castle. We had OPW Heritage cards, so it was free to enter.
      There were a ton of artisans with stores in the old horse stables. They were true craftsman. Leather, silver and candles. Oh! And pottery. We really loved it, and were going to get stuff, but then decided to wait.
      Another cool thing about this area was that our hotel is part of the grounds, so we literally walked out our back door, down a gravel path to the castle.      Read more

      Ristorante Rinuccini

      Dinner here was....good. Cory and I enjoyed ours. Mom's filet didn't really have too much flavor. Vera thought she ordered venison, but actually ordered veal. But the conversations and company more than made up for it.
      We said goodbye to Vera. She was a treasure and truly made our day perfect. We all adore her.
      We ended up walking 5,363 steps today.      Read more
