    One step after the other !

    We set ourselves a challenge aiming to climb Lion Rock but because it was so overpriced and bad reviews, we decided Pindurangala Rock was the sensible option. Our climb up the Rock started with us going through a temple. Mum and dad had to wear sarongs as a sign of respect. The walk started with a couple of stairs, which were super steep. I love hiking unlike some people in our family.... It was slippery as it rained just before we started. When we got to the top it was an outstanding view. The rock scrambling was so good but mum didn't like it and told us not to go up. I said to Mum, 'let's go on this track' and it turned out to be the actual trail! The lookout on top of the rock was the best view looking at Lions Rock.
    The walk down went by in a heartbeat- my legs felt fine.
    Another story I want to tell is before the hike we had a quick smoothie. Whilst we were there I saw an iguana trying to catch insects so I decided to help him out by catching the critters and I was able to hand feed him. When I started to walk away to get a sip of my smoothie, he followed me! He then jumped onto my arm and wouldn't let go! I had to physically get him off me by nudging him with my finger. It was so cool because it was wild and you wouldn't expect him to act like that.    Baca selengkapnya

    Good bye Sri Lanka and hello Malaysia

    We arrived in Kuala Lumpur at 5am this morning. I felt excited to be in a new place.
    We had to have a rest at our apartment because we were knackered. We can see the second tallest building in the world from our window.
    The food is different from Sri Lanka- so much more variety. I am not having a curry! I am all curried out. You wouldn't believe what I had for dinner- my own kind.... Frogs legs. They were delicious! We tricked Fern and told her they were chicken. She totally believed it. We also tried Tongahulu which I loved.     Sights from the sky

    I didn't wake up until midday, still catching up on my sleep.
    Fried dumplings for lunch from our favourite noodle shop downstairs, which tasted amazing.
    We walked to the KL Tower which is 421 metres high. There was lots of activities that you could do there and we were considering a walk around the outside of the tower but realised it was barely off the ground (what a con!). So instead we took the lift to the sky box and walked around the top of the tower looking out over KL. You don't realise but KL is massive. We could see our apartment, the Petronas Towers and the 2nd tallest building in the world , all from 1 spot.
    We went to a shopping centre after and had KFC for lunch. It was alright, not Australian good but ok. We were going to go into the theme park which has a roller coaster but decided to do it another day when we have more time.
    After a short rest we went back to the markets- so much quieter than last night. I tried an Australian wagu beef stick, mango juice and some weird jelly balls. And now it's time for bed.    Baca selengkapnya

    Mt Kinabalu

    Dad and I spent the last couple of days on Mt Kinabalu. We drove from Kota Kinabalu to the park on the 16th October. We checked into our hut for the night. We had to get acclimatised to the conditions because it's so high up.
    On the 17th we got ready for our climb. Our guides name was Cornelius and he was there to help us climb and help with directions. I felt so excited at the start of the climb. There was lots of moisture in the air as we began our ascent.
    The walk was through the forest and it was steep. There were lots of stairs. We had stopping points throughout the climb, but if you stop for too long your legs started to freeze up. About the 3.5km mark, it started pouring rain. It was terrible to walk in and it rained the whole day. By the time we made it to Laban Rata, I was so relieved . You could definately feel the change in oxygen level and it was hard to breathe. It was really cold too. We were excited to got some dry clothes on but when we opened the bag, they were all wet. We had some dinner and fell asleep very early.
    On the way up I saw some nepenthes, which were really cool. To get a photo I had to go down a slippery side track. If I fell off this track, it was a long way down. I also saw a squirrel which jumped on me!
    The next day, the 18th, was a very early start- 2am. We needed our headtorches and really warm clothes and we started the ascent to Lowe's peak. I started spewing about 500metres into climb. I had altitude sickness. It was really hard- probably the hardest thing I have ever done. I was above the clouds and filled a bag with some cloud to bring home.
    The view was incredible on the mountain and I felt like I was floating in the sky.
    The walk down was harder then walking up. My legs were like jelly and every step I took was harder and harder. It started raining again on the way down again.
    When I got to the bottom I was so relieved and absolutely exhausted. I was a bit upset that I got sick at the top but I was really proud of myself for doing this climb with dad.    Baca selengkapnya

    Monkey mayhem

    I was hoping for a sleep in after me and Dad's leg killing adventures, but I had no luck. We had to catch our flight to Sandakan at 9am- but I wouldn't complain about the flight because it was only 40mins long!
    When we arrived at Sandakan we were looking to get a hire car, but they were way too expensive. Instead we decided to go with a taxi. We drove to Sepilok but we couldn't check in until 3pm so I was out of luck getting a sleep there. We walked to the Rainforest Discovery Centre and walked around the tracks on a bit of a hike. We saw some awesome trees that were like 200m tall! We also saw a couple of animals- one of them was a massive snake in the water. We spotted it when we crossed the suspension bridge across the water. The snake was brown at the top and red at the bottom. I reckon it was 8 foot. We also saw weird little millipedes when we were walking and a water monitor. Then we came across some monkeys... at first we thought they would be chill and dad tried to take a photo. He didn't get too far as the mokey tried to attack us. Luckily I was there and scared it away by yelling at it and hitting my stick on the ground.
    After the walk it was only 1pm so we still had 2 hours until we could check in. To pass some time we walked to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. It was super cool and we got there for feeding time. The first feeding spot was at the nursery but we were inside a glass room. Then we walked to the actual feeding platform which was outdoors and about 8 metres from us. When the man came with the food he had 2 Orangutans following him, and one was the big male- Marlin. The Orangutans are my favourite type of monkey. They were fed fruit and when the man put the food down they all came to the platform, except for the mother and baby. The bloody pig tail macaques kept scaring her away. She got food eventually, but before that one tried chasing her and she shook the rope and it fell.

    Probiscus monkeys

    Today we went to Labuk Bay to see the Probiscus monkeys. When it was feeding time they started running through the platform where everyone was standing. They carried on with enjoyment when they got their food. A male probiscus has a long nose and the females have shorter noses. They have long noses so they can make louder and deeper calls and it helps them forage for food in the water. They are really unique and I enjoyed seeing them.
    The afternoon was spent on a river cruise at Kinabatangan River. I like getting to see the wildlife in the jungle. The orange baby silver leaf monkey was amazing. It looked fake when we saw it because how perfect it's face was.
    We saw a crocodile that was about 4m tearing up a crab pot- not as big as our Darwin crocs though!    Baca selengkapnya

    Batu Caves

    Walking up the colourful steps of Batu Caves (all 272 of them) took me back to Mt Kinabalu! There were heaps of monkeys, but they were fine.
    We saw stalactites hanging from the roof and one of the biggest Caves I have ever seen.
    For lunch we went to Little India for a delicious butter chicken. Everything was so colourful walking through the streets.
    In the evening we caught a monorail- first time ever! We walked to KLCC and watched the fountain light show right in front of the Petronas Towers- the tallest twin Towers in the world.

    Roller coasters and roti

    We had a big sleep in and by the time we woke up it was lunch time. We went to a street restaurant that got a Michelin Star this year. A Michelin is a thing that most chefs aim for- like an Olympic gold in cooking.
    We ate pork and chicken. The pork was so good it melted in my mouth. I was amazed and it was the best pork I have ever had in my life. Before I even got the food we had to wait an hour in line- because it is so popular.
    We then walked to a theme park. There was a massive roller-coaster with a corkscrew and a loop. Me and dad went on it a million times. Mum didn't go on anything because she was worried she would get sick. I tried to convince mum but she wouldn't budge.
    The theme park was so fun- can't wait to do another one.
    For tea we had Chinese Beef Roti and by the smell and taste of it, I believe it should also have a Michelin star. The guy behind us ordered 16! We had to line up for half an hour but definately worth it.    Baca selengkapnya

    A day of fish

    24–29 Okt 2024, Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

    This morning we went to the Aquarium. We all thought it would be a quiet morning but it turned out there was a massive school group of kids. The Aquarium was super awesome. We saw blue spotted rays at the start and also little sharks.
    We saw meerkats, otters and a bunch of lizards.
    There was arapaima, alligator gar, ripsaw catfish, arawanas, giant gourami and we walked through the ocean tunnell. It had gropers, grey nurse shark, sleepy shark trevally, massive stingrays ,turtles.
    The Aquarium was awesome.
    We visited a Chinese Temple with lots of lanterns.
    Dinner was Michelin Star again. We had big bowls of clam noodle soup. It was pretty good. The clams were a bit sweet. I liked the flavour.    Baca selengkapnya

    Malaysian Museum

    Today just dad and I went exploring while the girls went shopping. We caught the monorail to a huge park which was a bit of a walk away. We went to the Planitarium and the Orchid garden which had heaps of flowers. We then went to the deer park but it wasn't very good. It started raining in the botanic gardens so we went to the Malaysia Museum. After that we caught the train to Pavillion shopping centre. It is massive with a never ending food court.     Turkish icecream

    I had my favourite breakfast, roti chanai which is a fresh made roti with dhal curry and costs about 50c.
    We walked to the big shopping centre down the road to do the Ninja Gym course. We used the high ropes and unlimited climbs on the rock walls. There was also 2 warped walls like in Ninja Warrior and we rode a bike across the ropes.
    We caught a train to Pudu and walked through the stinky markets to get to lunch. The markets were horrendous because of the smell of them. Even when you didn't breathe through your nose you could still taste it in your mouth. When we arrived at the Michelin Star clay pots we had to wait 20mins until we could get a table. I liked it but not as much as the other 2 places we have eaten at.
    In the evening it was packed because it was Saturday night. Fern had an icecream was 32cm high. I tried a Turkish icecream bloke and it was so fun to do!    Baca selengkapnya

    The crazy cat cafe

    It was an exhausting day today! We went to KLCC water park and me and Fern played on the massive playground and kiddy pool. We were there for a couple of hours and we had heaps of fun.
    We caught a cab to a new shopping centre called Lala Port. First stop was the cat Cafe which Fern was dying to see. It was so cool being surrounded by so many cats. They were well cared for. I wonder what happens to the cats when they get old though? In the cafe there were booths and I would sit in one with a little treat in my hand and one particular cat called Leonado would always come sit with me. I would love to go back there again and take Florrie with me! Mum went shopping after the cafe so she dropped me and Fern to a jungle gym. It was massive so we were there for ages. Fern ran a game of dodgeball and tip with all the kids in there. We didn't get home until about 7. On the way home we saw a parade happening on the road with massive flags that were 12 metres tall.

    A big buffet

    I am going to talk about the last few days in Kuala Lumpur in this post. The last three days were rest days, just catching up on life and appreciating our travels. One of our nights we went out to have BIG buffet dinner. They had lots of seafood and the dessert was outstanding. I loved dessert the most. Mum and dad told me and Fern to eat until we exploded. Over the last couple of days me and Fern spent a lot of off time in the gym and the pool. I love how big the pool is- an infinity pool about 100m long.
    At Central Market me and mum found a shop with postcards and you could stamp them as many times as you want. You then write to someone and post it there straight away. We also ate some great food and ended up back at our favourite Michelin Star clam noodle place.
    I really liked KL and the big city life after being in rural Sri Lanka.    Baca selengkapnya

    A super car arvo

    Today we left KL and started a new adventure in Melaka, down south. I liked having a hire car, not as loud as a tuk tuk and aircon!
    Our little house reminded me of Galle Fort, just smaller. We wandered around the little town and stumbled across 3 massive water monitors fighting. The other tourists watching them thought they were dragons! It was funny watching the people trying to get off the river cruise with the monitors in front of them. Mum spotted a classic red Ferrari revving it's engine and told us to come and have a look. And then we saw all the other supercars - 12 in total. 1 Ferarri, 6 Lamborghini Hurricanes and 5 McLaren's. I have never seen so many sports cars in a group like that before. My favourite paint job was the grey Lamborghini Hurricane, but my favourite car was the blue McLaren.Baca selengkapnya

    The Melaka straight

    1–2 Nov 2024, Malaysia ⋅ 🌬 31 °C

    Our first day in Melaka started with Roti and Dhal. We went for a wander about and ended up at the Mega Mall. Dad was beside himself thinking,'Why did I tell them this was here!'
    We did a bit of looking, but no buying for me. We relaxed down by the river and for dinner had a pizza that was delicious! One of the best pizzas I have had in my life, or maybe it was because I haven't had a pizza for so long.
    Our second day in Melaka we walked a couple of kilometres to the Melaka Straight Mosque. Walking there was fairly warm. When we got there we all pictured all these massive buildings and a beach paradise type thing but we got an old run down abandoned town. The first thing I said was 'this is a ghost town isn't it!' I think it was haunted. The Mosque was really cool and I heard the prayers. Not everyone can go in, you have to have certain clothing.
    We sat by the river this afternoon. For dinner- more curry. We ended up meeting a bloke from Melbourne and had a couple of games of pool with him. I have quite enjoyed Melaka. A bit different from the big city, but I liked a bit of piece and quiet.    Baca selengkapnya

    Moto GP Racing

    3 November 2024, Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

    Up at 7.30am to leave Melaka on our way to Sepang to watch the Malaysia Moto GP. I was really excited to get there. I love watching motorbike races.
    It was one of my favourite things I have done in Malaysia. They were hitting speeds of over 300km per hour. When the main race started they all zoomed off to the first bend but one of the riders clipped another bike and crashed into the pack. The second it happened I thought it was just one rider but it turned out to be a few. One of the bikers was Jack Miller, the Aussie and he got hurt the worst, his head getting caught in another riders wheel. 4 ambulance came and it was so bad they put a curtain up around him. I thought he was going to kick the bucket. But he was all good.
    Watching the race going at that speed was a super cool experience. I really liked the day and at the end we went down on the track which was super cool and it was fun finding bits of rubber off the tyres.    Baca selengkapnya

    Sausage dog sickness

    4–6 Nov 2024, Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

    Leaving Sepang today and off to Penang. We stopped and had Burger King- big mistake.
    The drive up was long and nerve wracking. Maybe 6 or 7 accidents. Malaysian drivers seem to be hopeless. Speeding in the pouring rain with heavy traffic is crazy.
    When we got to George Town we went for a quiet walk and found Michelin Star Samosa. I was already feeling crook though so I only had a nibble. Back in the room I spewed up all my dinner and I struggled to walk home. I was feeling bad.
    The next day I woke up feeling like shit. My belly was bad. I lay in bed until lunch time. Mum told me about a cafe she found- reptile and dachshunds! I couldn't eat lunch but I had to go to the cafe to see the dogs and lizards. Being there made me forget I was sick. Truly the best short term medicine. I went home at 1.30, and was asleep by 2pm. That was me done for the day and night.
    At the cafe I liked the reptiles, especially the Madagascan chameleon. I don't like being sick.    Baca selengkapnya

    B Day

    I spewed in the morning , then had some sugar via a green slushie! And today is my birthday!! I felt ratshit turning 12.
    Dad showed me a place we could go called Escape Park. It has 2 world records. 1. The world's longest zip coaster
    2. The world's longest tube water slide.
    When we arrived I was so excited and not so sick.
    First we did the zip coaster which was 1.111km long. It was so fun especially hearing mum think twice about it. We then told her it went upside down after she was locked in!
    The water slide was amazing. We did a ropes course with everyone and it was pretty easy.
    I did a banana flip challenge. It's a drop slide that kicks up into a jump which was heaps of fun. We were at the park for 7 hours and by the end of the day I felt better- no sickness.
    I looked at a shoe shop but didn't buy any.
    For my birthday I am getting a new surfboard in Bali. I have to wait until January, but I am fine. A present is a present- doesn't matter what time you get it.    Baca selengkapnya

    Flying to Langkawi

    Got up early and flew a short way to Langkawj. Only 25mins flight.
    We couldn't check in til 3 so decided to go to the cable cars. When we got there me and Fern were super excited and we got a VIP car because it has a glass bottom. It was way better than the others because we could see through it obviously. Going up the hill was thrilling and went up 600 metres. Walking across the sky bridge made every one a bit cautious. I was fine, just mindful of the edge. Fern was shitting bricks but everyone else was sort of ok.
    Coming down felt quicker. A really good experience and I would do it again.    Baca selengkapnya

    Intriguing Islands

    For breaky we had our usual roti canai then we went to the beach ready to hop onto our jet skis. When I saw the jet skis rip in I thought this was going to be one of my best holiday days ever. And I was on the money! We got a safety briefing which I didn't pay attention to and then we were off. Me and mum were on one jet ski and dad and Fern on the other. Mum drove to the first island. It was her first time on a ski and I think she was a natural. She went about 60km an hour. First island we went to and we had an hour to explore the place. We went straight to the fresh water lake. It's fresh water because of all the rain coming off the big mountains. A few bomb dives and I tried out my new goggles.
    And then I drove next! Even though I ignored the safety briefing I think I knew how to do it from watching mum. Driving it was so fun! It took a little bit of getting used to though.
    Riding the jet ski through the ocean was much harder than the bays because the ocean was rough. I felt like I was in control but sometimes the waves kick the ski sideways and it's a bit hard to get it back on track.
    We went through some caves which was cool. On the way back I drove and I hit a max speed of 75km an hour, but it felt like 175km!
    We on the skis for 4 hours but it felt like 20mins! It was over in a heart beat.
    Overall, I reckon it was one of the best travel days of my life.    Baca selengkapnya

    The speeding Banana!

    9 November 2024, Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

    A slow start this morning- I slept in until 10.30. We caught up on a lot of school work today and I finished my workbook on Malaysia.
    Back to the beach for a swim and mucked around with some beach balls. Fern convinced mum and dad to go on a banana boat. I was up for that and I wouldn't say no to that.
    When it first came we all thought it would be a jetski but it was an old bunged up boat. We hopped on and the man said hold on tight. We went off to do one lap of the bay and we all expected it to go super fast and it putted along. We didn't even need to hold on. We then thought he would take a sharp turn to tip us off but he brought us into the shore and just flipped the banana. In that moment I thought he was taking the piss and I wasn't very happy about it. So we confronted the man we arranged it from and he wasn't happy about it either. He helped us organise another turn but this time with a jet ski. The second time was much better because the jetski is a lot more nimble and at the end he made us fall off by taking a sharp turn.
    A good day today finished with a curry and some time on the beach watching the fire show.    Baca selengkapnya

    Goodbye Malaysia, hello Thailand

    My last 2 days in Malaysia was spent doing some of our favourite things. We had our Michelin Star clam noodle soup, and we spent our last day shopping at a new mall. The mall just kept going and I don't even think we did a quarter of it. I went shopping at Hype which is a Malaysian brand. The guys that worked there were super friendly and I felt like I had a personal shopper with the amount of help I got. I ended up buying 2 shirts and a belt. We went to the Nike shop and I got a shirt and some long baggy pants. After you have been shopping for a while it gets quite boring but I enjoyed the shoe shops.
    Our last dinner in Malaysia dad was crook so he didn't end up coming out. So me, Fern and mum went to a 'all you can eat' japanese hot pot. I ate so much meat. I think I ate about $200 worth to be honest ! They also had really nice vegetables which I really liked.
    Malaysia has been so fun and all the really cool things we have done I will never forget. My favourites have been jet skiing, In door theme park, Mt Kinabalu, Escape Park with the world's longest waterslide and zipcoaster and my favourites food was roti chanai.
    Malaysia went so fast and now we are already 2 months into our travel adventures.
    Today we travelled to Thailand and we are staying on an Island called Phuket. My first thoughts of Thailand are hectic and they seem to do a lot of illegal stuff. We spent a short time tonight walking around Patong and we have so far seen people in the back of boats that are being towed, lots of marijuana smoking shops and you can buy guns off the street.     The Phi Phi Islands

    We left Patong a couple of days ago- I didn't really like it because of all the illegal stuff you could do- dangerous.
    The speed boat to the Phi Phi Islands was 1 hour and I reckon 60Km an hour.
    Phi Phi looked awesome and when we got to our villa, mum and dad hadn't told me and Fern we would have our own private pool. We spent a lot of our afternoons in the pool. Our second day in Phi Phi was a chill day and we just swam in the beach and pool. For lunch I had my first steak since we left and it was a BEAST! It tasted amazing and when I was eating it with the delicious pepper sauce my taste buds were dancing. Our third day in Phi Phi and we got up at 6am to go snorkelling but it was pouring rain. We delayed it until 7.30am. We went out on a long boat. The distance from the propeller to the boast was like 5 metres. When we went to the snorkelling spots it wasn't really about the coral and fish (even though we saw some amazing things) I reckon it was more about the landscape of where you swim. Towering mountains and cliffs. I love snorkelling and I hope I can do some more soon.
    We all snorkelled and loved it. No need to worry about crocodiles! Overall I think the Phi Phi Islands deserve a 9.4 out of 10 as it has been one of my favourite locations.    Baca selengkapnya

    Time for Jet skiing

    17 November 2024, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

    A super early start at around 6.30. I couldn't eat breaky cause it was too early. The bus driver bloke picked us up and drove us to a pier on the other side of the Island.
    Time for jet skiing! 4 hour , 6 islands. Mum drove to our first stop- Monkey Island. I don't like the idea of monkeys hopping on the jet ski and demanding food.
    So we stayed away and mucked around on the jetski. Next stop was a mangrove Island. Had a delicious mango for a snack. I took over the driving and it was a bit weird because it was a Yamaha, and I haven't driven one before. Our next stop was lunch where we had fried rice. A beautiful stop at the end on a beach that had beautiful water and it was amazing to swim in. The sand was super soft and white. Whiter than pearl.
    I hit 70kms an hour driving in, but it felt like 120km.
    It was a great day today. It's a lot of fun driving a jet ski and dad said he is going to buy one for fishing.    Baca selengkapnya

    The Bangkok Temples

    We arrived in Bangkok and caught a ferry to go see the Temples of Bangkok.
    The ferry was fun and in my opinion is the best way to travel around the city. It is very fast, there is no traffic and it's better than sitting in a car.
    When we got to the Grand Palace dad wasn't allowed in with his shorts so he bought a pair of long pants.

    I would say that it took decades or centuries to build because of the amount of details in the buildings. The Temples were massive and the Kings Palace is the equivalent to Buckingham Palace. It was like going to Disneyland because of the amount of people there. I didn't like being around that many people. Dad said that if he was running the show he would have a day when only Thai people can go in so they can enjoy their history and culture without all the annoying tourists.

    We caught the ferry to Wang Lang markets and had some crispy pork for lunch. There was lots of street food that I liked looking at.
    Our last stop was the reclining Buddha which is the biggest Buddha in Thailand. I reckon 15metres tall and 50metres long.
    The Temples were fascinating and great.
    The next day in Bangkok we caught the train to a shopping mall where we went to a trampoline park and had an all you can BBQ buffet. I ate lots of wagu steak, not the best you can get but still delicious.

    I had a great day with dad on our 3rd day in Bangkok because we went drain cover hunting in China Town for our new business idea. But I can't talk it about yet because someone might steal our idea. Watch this space!

    The house we are staying in is like a little apartment. I like it a lot. It's quirky.
    Bangkok has been something different. Lots of food markets and lots of adventure, but at the same time we have slowed down a bit and had a bit of rest too.    Baca selengkapnya
