• Day 42 - more thunder and lightning

    October 16, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

We moved on early from Ecocamping Rural Valle de La Fueva a day early, the weather was forecast for rain, rain and more rain and it wasn’t the best sight for Marla as there was nowhere to walk from site that wasn’t on a road.

We had a normal morning, up naturally, breakfast part one of overnight oats followed by breakfast part two of fresh croissant thanks to Carlos!

There was light rain was on and off all morning so I braved the outside world and packed up our chairs, table, cables etc before the rain got worse. Turned out the forecast wasn’t right and the sun came out mid morning! So we took Marla for a wander up and down the road to tire her out a little bit.

Back to camp for lunch and then we headed out. It was about a three hour drive, and we found an area to stop at on the way which supposedly was some ruins. Unfortunately the car park was up high and the ruins were underneath where we parked, with no way down. Thankfully it was enough for Marla to have a wee and want to get back in the van. The rest of the drive was uneventful but the last 12km was pretty much was narrow, it felt like single track but when I came face to face with a tanker, we both made it out unscathed so it must have been wide enough!

We made it to camp safely, this is quite a quiet place with a nice bar that was playing a good rock mix quite loudly! Marla wasn’t allowed inside but there were outside seats under cover so that was good, apart from the scary mantis on the window! We had a couple of beers here - very tasty indeed!

Back to the van for vegan burgers and chips (the chips were ready about 10 mins after the burgers - oops!).

And then the thunder and lightning started again…. thankfully the thunder has calmed down but there’s still a fair amount of lightning I can see in the distance. Let’s hope it stays silent for Marla’s sake!
