  • Day 25 Finisterre

    27. huhtikuuta, Espanja ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

So it was an easy 15km in the sunshine 🌞. After all that bad weather, the most important is now to have sunshine and it's here, so grateful. Finisterre is on the Costa da Morta, I guess because of all the shipwrecks. I think I'll go dip my feet in the ocean and rest today. Tomorrow I'll walk to the lighthouse. Most people walk there for the sunset but that's at 9:30, a bit too late for me to walk in the dark😏.
Being here now for a few hours it feels a bit like Provincetown in Cape Cod, kinda beachy kinda hippy dippy.

  • Day 26 Camino Finisterre/Muxia done

    28. huhtikuuta, Espanja ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

So having spent the afternoon in Finisterre, I decided that I would leave early and stay 2 days in Muxia instead. It just wasn't what I wanted, too busy, 20s crowd. At 7am I'm walking to the lighthouse which added km to my already long walk. 😏 Anyway after 36km (60,000+ steps, yep!) of walking in the warm sun I arrive in Muxia to no electricity anywhere and my phone battery is at 10%. No one knows exactly what is happening because everything is down, internet incl. Luckily they found some battery lights they put in the bathrooms so people can at least shower and 1 grocery store is open. So essentials are covered😃. I'm not sure what happened with the electricity but glad it came back at 4am. It's a partly cloudy day so perfect for me to go to the beach. I'm folding the poles and putting them in my pack so no more walking. It's done!!Lue lisää

  • Day 27 Muxia

    29. huhtikuuta, Espanja ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

0 km today, well a bit for sightseeing. Spent some time by the water. So nice to hear those waves. This is a really nice village, people try to help. There are these little streets with shops, a bit surprising, all for the good😁. I'm glad I decided to spend the 2 days here. I would come back.
Well just bought my 6am bus ticket to Santiago. Once in Santiago another bus to Porto...should be there about 1:30pm.

  • Day 28 Porto

    30. huhtikuuta, Portugali ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

Travel day. Geez almost didn't make it since it seemed everything was booked. One ticket booth wasn't open yet so I parked myself there and was first in line....she had 1 ticket left for the 10:30 bus☺️☺️ a Canadian guy behind me was not too happy, he had to book for tomorrow.
Porto greeted me with huge rain...had to put my poncho on!
A little old lady just put together 2 ham sandwiches and a Portuguese tart for me..explained how to say thank you and good day in Portuguese..so nice...ao friendly. I love Portugal so far.
Now it seems I have my own private room without asking...the day is ending very nicely.

  • Day 29 Fatima

    1. toukokuuta, Portugali ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Got into Fatima at 10:30am. The Fatima Santuary, as they call it, is huge. So many churches, shrines, paths, it's just too much to absorb. I saw what I could then took a walk around the little town. Since my bus to Tomar was at 5pm I had time to return to the Santuary. Walked into the big church as there was a special mass for all the religious organizations in the territory. The church has 8700 people capacity and people were standing. I've never seen so many people at mass. At the mass in the morning, it wasn't packed but still thousands of people.
Had a nice supper with a fellow Aussie pilgrim and tomorrow will visit Tomar.

  • Day 30 Tomar

    2. toukokuuta, Portugali ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Tomar is a really nice town. Lots of shops, restaurants, cafes, really friendly. The castle was a bit of a disappointment. I thought I would stay there for hours but 90 min was enough. No real plan on how to visit so I'm not even sure I saw everything. Ah well!
So many churches here to see.. I think I saw 4 but no masses. Well next is the train back to Porto. The final stop before I head to the airport Sunday. Looking forward to home! 😀

  • Day 31 Porto

    3. toukokuuta, Portugali ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

I arrived at the hostel at 9:30 last night. Man google maps sometimes gives you strange directions. Last night I looked in back of me a few times because it sent me to a strange part of town but maybe it's different in the dark!
Porto is a lovely town with a very historic old part and there are lots of people. Definately somewhere to return for a better look. Pilgrims start here for the Portuguese Camino. Met a few Canadians, it's nice to talk to people from home.
Most Portuguese speak english, at least a bit, so it makes life easier. Even finding the right train coach and seat can be difficult if no one speaks english and Portuguese is a difficult language to understand.
Got back to the hostel just before the rain to prepare my lunch. If you don't eat in restaurants and prepare your own meals, food is very cheap here and in Spain.
Gonna wait for the rain to stop then head back out to wander a bit. Just a little wander and noticed the restaurant prices are much higher than Spain..maybe because this is a tourist city?
John I'm going to WhatsApp you a text message tomorrow when boading the plane in Germany, I think about 1pm.
