  • Day -1 Bayonne

    9. april 2024, Frankrike ⋅ 🌬 14 °C

After a long day flying we landed in Biarritz where we meet up with a bunch of fellow pilgrims trying to figure out how to get to Bayonne and the train that will take us to St Jean Pied de Port and the start of our camino.Les mer

  • Day-0 St Jean

    10. april 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

We traveled by a real cute train from Bayonne to St Jean. On our arrival we followed a line of pilgrims headed straight for the official pilgrims’ office where we obtained our ‘credentials’. We ended our day with a great meal at our Alburgue by our hosts Joseph and Flor.

  • Day 1 St.Jean to St.Michel

    11. april 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

So we started our Camino today...finally!
We left our wonderful albergue this morning at 8:30 making a steady (sometimes steep) climb to Borda, our stop for the night. Only 9km but what a climb. Our training was well worth it since it wasn't too difficult for us old guys.
Ended the day again with a great meal from our hosts Laurent and Michel.G

  • Day 2 Hola Roncesvalles

    12. april 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

What a day! We left our albergue about 8:00 with a packed lunch and went up and up and yep more up for all 12km and then what goes up must come down so 4km straight down (of course we mistakenly took the path everyone told us not to since it's called the death path😯) but we survived and we are pooped out!!! Staying at the 180 bed monastery tonight - should be interesting! Onwards! GLes mer

  • Day 3 Zubiri

    13. april 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Went to the Pilgrim Mass at Roncesvalles Monastery last night and the Cardinal giving the service blessed us, hope it helps.🤗
Walking is not always pretty and so far it's usually not easy. 22km took us 6 hours jncl 2 small breaks. Mainly very rocky forest paths that I think are more dangerous then yesterday's death path 😟 Gotta be careful as it's so easy to sprain an ankle. Let's hope tomorrow is flatter! G OnwardsLes mer

  • Day 4 Pamplona - Ole🐂

    14. april 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

    They let us in😁
Today was the hardest day at 23km and we are feeling it. Met up with our Aussie friend Jo who we walked most of the day with. Made a slight off-course trip to Zabaldika to see a very beautiful 12th century church. Well we haven't eaten since breakfast so we're off to find some food.Les mer

  • Day 5 Puenta la Reina

    15. april 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

So we climbed to windy Alto de El Perdon today. Beautiful way up, not so much going down. We are VERY lucky that we've had no rain. All these ups and downs would have been very unpleasant to say the least if they were wet. Arrived in Puenta La Reina 24km where our rooms were cancelled by error but they found us another inn around the corner.
    Alls good. G onwards

  • Day 6 Estella

    16. april 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Our new albergue last night had only 7 people so it was nice and quiet. The surprise breakfast let us start our 24km walk early so it was nice checking in today at 2pm. A pretty uneventful day except for Cirauqui, a lovely medieval village up on a hill. Check out those old grapevines. Must be a sight to see in Sept.
Bros, I know where the Oak Island path comes from....Spain 🤣

  • Day 7 Los Arcos

    17. april 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Today the terrain is changing.... we've been on street paths, rocky paths, gravel, dirt and cobble path. Today we were on farm paths. Walking 22km among the poppies, wheat and grapes fields.
Also with the twisting paths we think we are walking alone but today on flatter fields we see there are alot of us walking.Les mer

  • Day 8 Viana

    18. april 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Olive trees! There are tons here and they make the most tasty oil. We decides not to take a rest day tomorrow so we walked only 18 km today. Checked in just after noon. Tomorrow we plan on 20km. We are just not sure what shape we'll be in if we do the 28km scheduled.Les mer

  • Day 9 Navarrete and 10 Najera

    19.–20. apr. 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Heading to Naverette was mainly vineyards and pavement. A somewhat easy 24km walk but our feet and legs still hurt from the daily pounding. No blisters anymore, just aching muscles.
It's FIESTA time in Najera celebrating what else but wine....vineyards are everywhere. 5 refills for 10euro...I'm in😁 Gave ourselves a break today with only 16 km. Next few days will be tough with longer walks and higher ascents. Onwards!Les mer

  • Day 11 Santo Domingo and Day 12 Belorado

    21.–22. apr. 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Day 11 was sunny but the nasty wind kept us cold. A very pleasant 22km to Santo Domingo.
The only pleasant thing about Day 12 was stopping in Granon. The rest was feet pounding the gravel path beside the cold windy highway for 23km. Not a very nice way to travel and hopefully there won't be too many more like that😬. We booked an Albergue tonight with a Dutch couple in Belorado that have only 2 rooms. We should sleep like babies tonight. Onwards!Les mer

  • Day 13 San Juan de Ortega

    23. april 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

What a lovely morning leaving Belorado. Had a full breakfast at our albergue with eggs and bacon. Haven't had that since home. And our host made us bocodillos to have at lunch. Just when we think the climbing has ended we had to climb a steep 3km grade of 12 endless km making our walk today 25km. We are happy to reach San Juan. This is a monastery town with 3 churches. We can stay at the monastery for a donation but no heating. Thanks but we'll take the 15e albergue 😁Les mer

  • Day 14 and 15 Burgos

    24.–25. apr. 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

We've arrived in Burgos and taking a rest day tomorrow so no walking with a pack until Friday.
Today was supposed to be 23km but with all the city walking to our hotel it ended to be a 27km day. Oof!
Today day 15 we played tourist. We visited the Cathedral and the Museum of Evolution and just kind of hung out. Tomorrow onwards!

  • Day 16 Hornillos Day 17 Castrojeriz

    26.–27. apr. 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Today we begin the dreaded Mesaeta, mostly flat, mainly farmland and little shade for the next 10 days. Seems perfect to me? 22km today and people are having difficulties finding accommodations so tonight will try to book to Leon.
It took 17 days but today (Sat) it rained HARD for a couple hours with a nasty wind. Of course we were ready with our rain pants in the backpacks 🤣 At least raincoats and poncho worked so we survived!

  • Day 18 FromistaDay 19 CarrionDeLosCondes

    28.–29. apr. 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

On Day 18 we woke up to a surprise ascent that reminded us of the Pyrenees. A 26 km day that included a walk by the old canal into Fromista. Alot of churches have stork nests on their steeples, I've only seen that here in N.Spain.
Day 19 was a flat 20 km straight line day that had us checking into our church municipal hostel run by the Sisters of Charity - it will be a warm sleep as the sisters won't shut the heat at 10pm🙏

  • Day 20, Day 21 and Day 22

    30. apr.–2. mai 2024, Spania ⋅ 🌬 13 °C

The video is from yesterday in Carrion. The bell that went wild and wouldn't stop ringing🤣🤣🤣
Day 20 It was a 24km day into Ledigos. All farmland on a straight gravel path beside the road. Pretty quiet. Tomorrow we will have walked HALF the journey once we reach Sahagun. We can try to get our half Compostela- so excited🤗
Day 21 Sahagun Here we are, the HALF POINT, can't believe we are heading for the end!!! Only 16km today. Heading out to get our half Compostela. Cannot post today from the nunnery - no Wifi, sorry!
Day 22 Reliegos Big big 31km day - we are tired but nothing a hot shower can't fix😁 Ran into a bit of rain this afternoon but all is good. Tomorrow we walk to Leon, last big city so we'll take our last rest day Sat. Onwards!

  • Day 23 and 24 Leon Day 25 San Martin

    4.–6. mai 2024, Spania ⋅ 🌬 12 °C

We arrived in Leon after a 25km day. We are ready for a rest day tomorrow. Because almost everyone takes a rest day in Leon, Day 24 had us catching up to people we haven't seen in awhile. Really nice to hear how everyone's journey is going. Day 25 - it's s raining...hard. We head out for our 25 km day walking through suburbs, industrial areas all by the highway in the rain, what a slog🤪. We say goodbye to the Mesaeta and start our 3rd and last part of our journey.🤗. Onwards!Les mer

  • Day 26 Astorga Day 27 Rabanal

    7.–8. mai 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

What a beautiful city Astorga is. So much to see! 25km day. Had a wonderful meal and met new Pilgrims at our albergue that started their journey in Leon. Only their 2nd day, ha amateurs🤣
Day 28 had us starting out before 7am and it was good to check in at 1pm after only 20 km. A steady ascent through some small towns that I think wouldn't exist without the camino passing through. Tomorrow we are back climbing, now to Cruz de Ferro, an important stop for pilgrims.Les mer

  • Extras

    7. mai 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

So the video is Jerry and Sylvie's next biking holiday destination 😁
We went to this 12th century church where the brothers were singing vespers. It was packed!
Turn up the volume to hear those cow bells and moos.Les mer

  • Day 29 Cacabelos

    9. mai 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

We are back in grape country. Cherry trees and roses everywhere. Our tour of the castle took 2 hrs out of our day but still managed to check in at 3:30 after 25 km. The temperature is rising, I think in the high 20s so walking in the afternoon is a bit harder. We are arriving in Santiago May 18 so not too many days left and we are getting anxious🤗😁🤗😁Les mer

  • Day 30 La Portela Day 31 O'Cebriero

    10.–11. mai 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Day 30 was one of our favorite mornings so far. Beautiful and quiet 10 km through vineyards then we headed for the pavement. 13 km of pavement walking had my feet burning but all was good the next day.
Day 31 is our last big ascent and the steepest...it was beautiful. Only 14 km today so no aches and pains😁
    Tomorrow we head down😟
