Shopped the largest market in Latin America -- Chichicastenango.
We arrived in Antigua in the middle of a downpour after riding in the backseat on a very curvy road for 2 hours in rush hour traffic. The city is both beautiful and historic, consisting of maze-like roads, flanked on either side with concrete, stucco walls. The historic area is majestic with its reconstructed cathedral fronts to show what the city looked like before it was laid to ruins by a huge earthquake years ago. The ruins lay untouched just on the other side of the reconstructed areas.Read more
Today went went into the heart of Guatemala city where the markets and stores are primarily owned by the Mayan Indians. I exchanged some US dollars for Quatzels so the shopping could begin!
