    This week has been a beautiful reminder of how nice it is here on sunny, warmer days. We even had a day with 16 degrees, which was a perfect taste of what’s to come in summer 🌞 can’t wait!

    For Josh, it was project week which means there’s masterclasses and workshops on at University. I had a pretty cool site visit on Tuesday for a 3 story restaurant that we will be doing the branding and design for! It was a nice experience to be able to see the vision and be a part of an exciting project.

    On Friday Tristan came to stay with us here in Amstelhoek, we made pizzas and watched Lord of the Rings! In the morning we played board games and then went into the city to explore some shops and have lunch together. It was a really nice time 😄😄    Read more

    Spring is here

    This week has been pretty productive.
    Josh had university like always, where he’s been practicing lots. On Wednesdays he’s usually out at a jam session in the city which is inspiring and fun for him to play with other musicians 😄

    Works been busy for me, I finished my second UI (user interface design) website layout for an American company. It’s been a big project but one I’ve taken the lead on and the team is really happy! It’s so great to be learning new skills in design 🥳

    We had a quiet weekend catching up on spring cleaning and stocking up the pantry 🌸 Ben and Christine (landlords) have been busy in the garden and garage working on projects, so it’s been nice to see them around and have chats together.    Read more

    This week has been filled with lots of good moments! On Tuesday, Josh had a performance/workshop at Bimhuis, the genre was middle eastern fusion which was really interesting and sounded great. Josh played very well (of course) ✨

    On Friday, I had the day off work and Josh did too, so we enjoyed a slow morning making bread and then an evening walk along the river. We got the most perfect sunset colours, a nice way to start the Easter weekend 🧡💜    Read more

    The weather forecast for the weekend was expected to be 20-24 degrees, and I think it’s fair to say everyone couldn’t wait for the weekend to start! On Saturday, I enjoyed roaming the Rijks Museum garden and soaking up the beautiful 24 degrees we had, so many people out on their boats, bikes and walking all around the busy streets. It was basically summer 😄 at 6:30pm I met Josh after he had work and we had a picnic dinner in Westerpark. On our bike back home we found a street side carnival, so we had to check that out.

    On Sunday, Sabine and Bjerke arrived in Amstelhoek. We had a nice walk along the river and then enjoyed dinner (and treats from joshes work of course) we are excited to have them visit us this week, and for them to spend time exploring Amsterdam 🌠    Read more

    A week in spring

    Lots of pretty views this week with lots of good weather! We even got another day above 20 degrees 🌱

    On Wednesday we said bye to Sabine and Bjerke as they finish off their trip here. We really enjoyed having them stay here and experience a little taste of our life in Amstelhoek and of course Amsterdam.

    On Saturday we biked around the city looking for thrift stores selling anything orange, because kings day is coming up and we need to get our orange outfits ready 😁 it was a successful day, which we finished off with expensive ice cream before heading back home.    Read more

    Another week in April 🌸

    Looking back on this weeks photos, it looks like plenty of nice sunny weather. But don’t be fooled, it’s been raining the entire week so it was extra special when we did get moments of sun and blue sky! Naturally, I took advantage of this by walking or running outside and enjoying it while it lasts ☀️

    On Thursday night Josh and I went to an Afrobeat and jam session gig at Mid West in Amsterdam. It was a fun night and so great to hear Afrobeat live again, and of course see Josh get to play on stage! We also went to the ‘12 hours of jazz’ festival at the University on Saturday. Josh played in two performances with his classmates which is always so nice to be able to see. Lots of good music 🤩🤩    Read more

    This week was pretty chill with work. I met up with a new friend for coffee which was nice and enjoyable despite the rainy cold weather.

    Josh had an exam this week which he did really well on, very happy about that 🥳🥳

    On Saturday we celebrated Kings Day 🍊🧡
    Kings Day is a big celebration here, so we were excited to wear orange and join in on our first one. There were lots of DJs competing to be heard along the streets, cosy homemade food stalls and markets, as well as lots of party boats in the canals. It was hectic, every street had something happening which made it sort of overwhelming with the masses of people, but we had a fun time 🎉    Read more

    Long weekend in Köln

    On Thursday morning we set off on our journey to Cologne! It was a super warm day, about 25 degrees when we arrived in the city centre. We enjoyed an early dinner with Oma Astrid and spent some time catching up and enjoying seeing each other (the last time we visited was August last year) Josh and I then took a long walk along the Rhine and witnessed the sky lighting up with lightening and thunder, dark clouds were looming ahead and we ended up getting caught in the rain but we had our jackets of course 😁😁

    On Friday we spent time with Richard and Elke, some of Oma Astrid’s good friends. We really enjoyed seeing the exhibition space at the Gasometer. In the evening we had dinner and played a semi-competitive round of Phase 10 (which I lost) 🥲

    During the weekend, we spent time exploring the city, visiting the Ludwig museum (which has a very impressive Picasso collection, among other great artists) and eating delicious food 🤩

    Our time in Germany was short but we really enjoyed being with Oma Astrid and having a nice break away from our busy Amsterdam lives. We will be back very soon 🧡    Read more

    And just like that it feels like summer is here! We enjoyed a beautiful week back in Amsterdam with some really nice weather, the weekend was extra good with 25 degrees 😁

    Throughout the week we tuned in to watch the Eurovision semi finals, and started to decide on our favourites and who we thought might win. It was a bummer to watch the news unfold about Joost from the Netherlands, as it was looking hopeful that he might’ve won the competition 🇳🇱 We still made a night of it and joined some friends who were hosting a watch party and that was a really fun time 🤩Read more

    Long weekend w/ friends

    Another stunning week to write about 😄
    I always write about the weather first, so it feels wrong not to mention that this week was pretty perfect in that department! It feels like we will get more constant days over 20 degrees now, which has us excited for the long summer ahead…

    This weekend, two of Joshes good friends from his volunteer year in Sankt Blasien (2019) came to visit us here. Josh hasn’t seen them since, so it was a big deal to have this plan work out! I was equally excited to meet both Helena and Pauline after hearing stories about their friendship. On Saturday, Josh took his friends into the city for a canal tour and to explore the city. In the afternoon we had the best cinnamon buns and enjoyed chilling at Sarphatipark. It’s been so nice to finally meet them and for Josh to finally see them again.

    Resting

    A pretty restful and quiet week here…I’m sick unfortunately, so I spent the week resting and working from home. Josh has been busy studying for exams as his finals are just in a few weeks now 🤞

    We’ve also had lots of rainy weather which has made being sick feel cosy and kept me from feeling down about not being outside. As I write this, Josh is out at the cinema with his friend Tristan and I’m about to get a nice early sleep, hopefully next week I’ll be all better 😴⭐️    Read more

    End of Spring

    Another weekly update ⭐️ this week has been quiet again, I’m pretty much recovered now from being sick but still worked from home the entire week just to get as much rest as possible. Josh had one exam (with 4 papers) this week, so he was preparing for that, which he passed 🥳 so that’s great!

    On Saturday we had a chill afternoon in the city and enjoyed some treats by the canals. Other than that, I’ve been spending my weekend preparing for my family to visit! So I did the gardening and made sure our place looks great for their arrival. They are on their flight now and will arrive Monday afternoon.

    Expect lots of updates over the next 3 weeks as we spend time with my family here in Amsterdam, a weekend in Germany and the rest in Denmark! I can’t wait to see them, it’s felt like a long time 🥹    Read more
