Visa update!

Josh and I received the news finally on my visa decision 🙊 happy to say it was a positive one - the visa has been granted!! I am so happy that I can now work without requiring a work permit and can live here for up to 5 years alongside Josh. It’s a really great opportunity and I am very thankful for Josh and his support in this process as well the fact it wouldn’t be possible without him ❤️Read more

Back to routine

This week really felt like summer!! 🌺

It’s nice to be back in Amsterdam with Josh now. He’s finished all of his exams for the year (woohoo) so is picking up more shifts at work. I unfortunately had my last week of my internship at the design studio, it’s been a great past 6 months working there. I have gained lots of new skills (website design was a big one!) and experience with projects which will only strengthen my capabilities. We have enjoyed lots of warm days in the sun (with ice blocks of course) and watching the Euro cup!

This week also marked our 6th year of being together, so that’s something special too ❤️Read more

New beginnings

This week has been pretty busy for us here. On Thursday we met up with Richard and Elka (Oma Astrid’s friends) in Amsterdam! It was really nice to show them a little bit of the city, get a treat from Joshes work and enjoy some cold drinks in the sun ☀️ With my internship coming to an end, I enjoyed a final hurray with my work mates on Friday. I’m really grateful for the past 6 months I spent working alongside them and I look forward to the opportunities it will bring!

On Monday I started my trial shifts for a casual job at Mima (Mediterranean place) in Amsterdam. Just something to do in-between design job searching and a new skill to learn as I’ve never worked in hospitality before! 😋🥗Read more

De Haar castle + this week

Before we had our week in Germany, we had the best day trip to the largest castle in the Netherlands, De Haar 🇳🇱 it was about a 25km bike ride to get there but it was well worth it. The castle was a very luxurious experience 😁 we enjoyed pretending we could live there, picking our favourite rooms and roaming the Roman garden like it was our own.

This week we’ve settled back into our summer routine, Josh has no university until September and I’ve just started working at Mima as a casual job. The team are young and fun and the food is tasty so it’s been a good time learning the ropes of hospitality and gaining some new work experience 🥗Read more

Summer is good

This week has been good 💛 we’ve had lots of warm sunny days here, and a few we’ve been able to spend together. I’ve been busy picking up as many shifts as I can at Mima, which has been busy but good. Josh has also been working quite a bit so it’s been a busy time for both of us.

Tonight we are travelling into Germany (yes, again!) and arriving in Pfullendorf tomorrow. We are excited to spend time with Helena and Pauline again 🌞 It’s crazy to think this time next week I’ll be back in New Zealand…Read more

Arriving in Pfullendorf

On Monday night we set off for our journey for Pfullendorf. It ended up being much longer than anticipated because of long delays and engine issues with the train. Eventually we were on our way, and made it about 4 hours later than planned. Nevertheless, we arrived in very sunny and hot Ulm, where Helena and Pauline greeted us — and with very pretty roses too! Meersburg am Bodensee

On Wednesday we made our way to Meersburg for the day. Our first view of the lake was clouded over by grey skies and rain, but thankfully after spending sometime exploring the old Medieval Castle, we returned to clear blue skies and hot sunny weather. This town is so beautiful, it’s really something special — from the lakefront to the architecture, there is always something to look at. Later in the day we went for a swim 🏊🏻 and then spent the evening playing some fun card games. It has been a really enjoyable summer break away! Wie schon gesagt, ich bin in Amsterdam geblieben. Ich genieße jetzt erst mal den Sommer 😄, bei uns kann man ja in der Amstel direkt vor der Haustür schwimmen. Montag nachts hab ich mich mit einem Freund aus CvA getroffen und wir haben den Meteorschower bewundern können. Ansonsten arbeite ich diesen Monat mehr bei Petit Gateau, so dass ich hoffentlich ein bisschen sparen kann 💸.Read more

Woche vor dem Studium

Diese Woche war etwas mehr los :). Ich hab mich mit Tristan (Bassist aus Hannover) für ein Kaffee in Amsterdam getroffen und wir haben über unsere Ferien gequatscht. Endlich habe ich mir auch eine neue Regenjacke besorgt (Patagonia), ein bisschen Vorbereitung für das Herbstwetter. Dann war ich auch noch in Oldenburg Simon und Sarah besuchen. Simon und ich haben uns Bremen angeschaut und waren auch bei einem Bunker der heutzutage als Gedenkstätte da ist. Alles sehr interessant, es tut gut was anderes zu tun vor das Studium wieder los geht. Nächste Woche ist Renée wieder da und ich 24/7 in der Uni.Read more

The last of summer

It has felt like a very busy first week since being back in Amsterdam. I’m so happy I’ve managed to catch the last of summer before it goes again until next year… 🌺☀️

Josh has had a busy start back to university but everything’s going well. I met up with a new designer friend for coffee which was a really nice connection to make, and I also enjoyed the team event for work - we went on a canal boat at sunset!

On Saturday, Josh and I decided to bike to Haarlem (approximately 60km return) it was a nice reminder of the Dutch nature (biking through forests, parks and lakesides) ☀️Read more
