    Festive season

    December 12, 2025 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Back into the swing of things after a busy time travelling and wrapping up the end of the year 😌 let’s first mention that it was Joshes 25th birthday this week!!! I made a pistachio vanilla cake and we had some nice celebrations together 🥰 crazy to think it’s been 10 years of knowing each other (from 15 to 25, where does the time go!?)

Five days before Christmas and finally got ourselves a little Christmas tree 🎄 also had a very nice end of year Christmas dinner with my work team and also got spoilt with a sack of goodies! Feeling so grateful ❤️

Josh is going to Germany in a few days to celebrate Christmas with Oma Astrid and Joanna and I will spend our Christmas (her first winter Christmas and my first Dutch Christmas) here in the Netherlands 🇳🇱

  • The start of 2026

    January 20 in the Netherlands ⋅ ⛅ 1 °C

Just like every other month, January so far has been a busy one. Amsterdam got a lot of snow these past few weeks, the most I’ve seen here in the Netherlands. It was so beautiful 😍 of course after almost a week of disruptions it was nice to see it melt away, but the snow does really make winter more magical ☃️ now that the sun is back, we’ve been enjoying park strolls, thrift shopping, hosting board game nights, playing gigs (Josh) and this weekend I did a really cool ceramic painting season (at Joanna’s workplace) with my friends 🤍Read more

  • Overveen to Santpoort Noord

    February 9 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☁️ 6 °C

This weekend, Josh planned a long walk for us to do outside of the city. The weather ended up being perfect for it - really felt like springtime already 🥹 most of the walk was through forest and sand dunes, then we arrived by the coast and saw the beach! We passed 2 lakes and a few small towns along the way, and even saw some castle ruins.

In total we walked about 18kms 🥾 it was really nice to pause and listen to the silence (when we couldn’t hear the racing cars at the nearby track) and take time away from the busy city. Have missed nature like this 🌿

  • Weekend fun!

    February 14 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☀️ 2 °C

Recent, fun weekend moments from our life here in the busy city! Every weekend we’ve had sunny (or snowy) weather which means making plans with friends! We actually had a spontaneous catchup with a few kiwis travelling through Amsterdam (from Christchurch/Wellington) was nice to spark an old connection.

Josh made a lovely roast, side salad and tiramisu for us on Valentine’s Day ❤️ it was so delicious, better than any restaurant. Speaking of restaurants, we celebrated with a set 3 course dinner for Tristan’s birthday (he picked the fanciest place haha! ) but it was fun to be with all of Joshes friends and some of their partners too.

Today, Josh, Joanna and I are travelling to Aarhus to stay with my family up there! We will also visit Kiel on the way back ⭐️ Looking forward to a final little winter getaway ☃️
