• Virtual Solar System drive & observatory

    November 9, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Being a dark skies designated area means an observatory and telescopes, plus the chance to visit all the planets, at places along the road. Each planet’s marker was proportional in size and distance from the sun (in this case the telescope).

Such is my obsession about capturing all the planets, Col has had to find turning spaces for Matty, which on narrow and potholed roads is no mean feat (I know, patience of a saint) - just so I can take pics!

So we visited the Siding Spring (pics on next post) Observatory https://www.sidingspringobservatory.com.au/
and were able to view the Australian Astronomical Observatory telescope innards from a viewing area. Typically we managed to time our visit on a day when the visitor centre was closed (obvs) so will go back there tomorrow to see what that’s about.

As for star gazing, our hopes aren’t high for tonight either, AND by chance, there is a lunar eclipse. How galling to have that obscured by cloud 🤷‍♀️.

We have more planet pics to capture …..keeping things crossed for tomorrow, as they’re on busy roads and driving past is quite easy.

Wed update: ⭐️ Space Mission successful - all planets visited ⭐️

It was tense and our 👀 were pealed to the road! We had three more to find, ending with Pluto (who some will argue is not a planet!) but we did it 🙌🏻
