So long Matty and Coogee Beach

    November 15, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

So we said bye bye to Matty, dropping her off at the Sydney depot. Also left our faithful step stool, Lofty, in the hope a fellow shortie will find him as useful as I did.

The handover was a quick affair. The assistants at the depot won’t have realised the emotional bond we had with our ‘buddy’, and they quickly took the key’s, gave her a cursory once over and said all was well.

It was a real wrench leaving her behind, she was our faithful travel accomplice. Just hope her next travelling companions enjoy her company (and quirks* she had a few….) as much as we did.

Oh and we drove 6584km (4100 miles) 😅

Our cab arrived quickly, so I had to shift my brain to the next matter, our ‘embarrassment’ of bags and getting to our accommodation in Coogee Beach.

It really was a gear change, Coogee is a beach suburb of Sydney. It’s busy, bustling, boisterous, and so much bigger than pretty much all of the places we’ve been to. It has a city vibe, and I’m not sure I’m ready to embrace it yet 🫣

Our final Aus accomm (for three nights) is a snazzy one bed (hotel) apartment, with all mod cons inc a washing machine - bliss!!

    Embarrassment of bags…..
No idea how we’ll distill everything into our original luggage. Makes me panicky just thinking of it 😱

    * Matty’s quirks (but we still loved her!):
🚐 Sliding door sensor constantly pinging over every pothole (and there were a lot)
🚐 One of the cupboard doors randomly swinging open in transit and spitting out its contents
🚐 The third passenger seat-back falling forward - we had to cable tie it in place
🚐 The back bumper having only one bolt - again cable ties deployed
🚐 The seal at the bottom of the loo door getting stuck so you had to yank the door with force
