• Singapore Sunday and last day of trip

    21. november 2022, Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

It’s hard to stay on the go for too long here due the to heat and the pace of the place (not to mention jet lag/general confusion!) Having said that, yesterday (according to my watch) we walked over 11 kms. That’s a lot for this ol’ bird!

Yesterday was earmarked for Gardens by the Bay, which entailed a lot more walking (sorry feet!)

After a more successful MRT experience, we successfully arrived at the gardens, seeing the Supertree Skywalk (techno trees) by day, the Cloud Forest and the Flower Dome - all well worth the time and distances covered.

Each place was remarkable in its own way. The skywalk gives you a great open air vista of the immediate area and techno trees.

The Flower Dome showcased fantastic blooms from around the world, including great cacti and succulent displays and geraniums bigger than I’ve ever seen - when I think of my garden pots there’s no comparison!

The Cloud Forest was our fave, fantastic jungley vibe, with a spectacular waterfall. You gently spiral up and around the dome. The greenery is beautiful and dramatic - quite how they keep this number of varied plants in such good condition is beyond me - one big watering can I guess!

We had the added ‘bonus’ of promo for the new Avatar film (I wasn’t keen on the first!). This meant blue figures and fantastical beasts dotted around which I had no need for!

To rest up a bit, we went back to the Sands Bay Shopping Mall and ended up in Starbucks, as a cuppa and seat had become urgent.

Had been hoping to eat at the mall, but the food court was jammed, and grabbing a free table was too cut throat an experience for us, so decided to move on. Eating turned out to be a hit and miss affair for me yesterday - let’s just say I was looking forward to breakfast!

As is the case in Singapore, nothing is done in halves. In one Mall, there’s a waterway for gondola rides (fans of Vegas will recognise the similarity to The Venetian).

There was also a round ‘pool’, with an inverted dome above. Every so often, the dome disgorged a lot of water into the pool below. You can watch the water swirling down from above, like a plug hole!

Our final visit (bloody knackered at this point) was to the Supertree Observatory, which we saved until nightfall. Good views of the techno trees, but the general view was obscured by observatory tree’s own techno branches, so the light show on the trees was a bit hard to see.

Other things we might have done: Orchard Road and Lucky Plaza (tomorrow maybe) and the Helix bridge by night. Both postponed due to time, tiredness and waning enthusiasm!

Caught in a long taxi line after the techno lights, which was very slow to resolve, so caught a cab back to the hotel (using a taxi app).

And that was our last full day on this trip ❤️

If it’s correct, my watch says nearly 13 kms walked 😳
