    Vasa ship

    14 juin 2019, Suède ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Largest ship of its age ever salvaged. Interesting story. King Gustav commissioned the war ship with some other ships as well. This one was built first and with a lot of input from the King. I guess he fancied himself as a ship designer. The boat was built pretty quickly, in about a year. The man in charge ultimately of the design of the ship was named Captain of the vessel. On August 10 1628, Vasa set sail on her maiden voyage and sank in Stockholm harbour. She hadn’t got far, maybe a kilometre or so. The wreck was salvaged in 1961 and is now in a museum that in my opinion is a very nice museum dedicated to the glorification of vanity and incompetence. Harsh, I know.En savoir plus
