    Huge lava field -- flood basalt, to be accurate -- created by the same hotspot that's now under Yellowstone.

    Before hiking in the lava tubes they give you a mini lecture about the white nose fungus that kills bats. They say it stays on your clothes forever unless you soak in bleach, so you could transmit from one cave to another one years later, if you wear the same clothing.

    There was a little amphitheater at the campground and the rangers gave a lecture at night. I guess they're PhD students when they're not rangering. We learned some interesting tidbits, but it was also a little weird and boring so we left early.
