• Journey Closing

    9 maart 2024, Cambodja ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

We didn't pose for the final photo at the airport (honestly, no one looks good in fluorescent lighting at 6 a.m.), but that doesn't mean the journey didn’t end beautifully. After 28 days, two countries, a few tuk-tuks, and what I estimate to be at least 43 bowls of pho, our adventure through Vietnam and Cambodia came to a close—not with a selfie, but with the quiet satisfaction of having really lived it.

Traveling with my mom, Sally, was an experience equal parts National Geographic and snack management. Between navigating street markets, ancient temples, and a flesh-eating fish tank, I always made sure we had one essential item: snacks for Sally. (Pro tip: a well-fed travel companion is a happy travel companion.)

Vietnam charmed us with its energy, endless scooters, and broth that could heal your soul. The people we met along the way were as beautiful as the scenery, warm, open, inviting. Cambodia humbled us with its history, beauty, and the kindest people we met along the way. And through it all, my mom was right there—wide-eyed, open-hearted, and occasionally wondering where the nearest air conditioning was.

Though I didn’t document our final airport dash or write a poetic farewell in real time, I’ve come to realize: the best endings don’t always need to be captured. Sometimes they’re just felt. Like cool happy hour moments at the end of a hot day or that final bowl of pho—simple, perfect, and just enough.
