Baku, The City of the Lotus Eaters

In every trip I go on, I have a place which I call my “Lotus Island”

In The Oddyssey, there is a tribe called the “Lotus Eaters” in which they ate exclusively the flowers of the lotus plant which caused apathy and exhaustion.

Baku is my Lotus Island. What was meant to be a two day stay ended up being a week of doing absolutely nothing but eating and sleeping.

Baku itself was so highly accessible that it made me slip into an apathetic mood where food and comfort was plenty available which led to me doing NOTHING for a week. Attached are the pictures of many cats that lived in the hostel I stayed in, owned by a lovely Muslim called Resul, he helped me get my ticket to the ferry (which is an arduous task as it is) and we had many long talks about the modern day and Islamic and Turkic influence on the region.Read more
