    gravy train

    So we rode on this path that is the car testing road for GM motors... Flat asphalt... so I was enjoying actually getting to use some of my higher gears...and I turn around because I thought Sherelle was playing some music loudly on her phone...instead what was happening was the bags on the backrack of Sherils bike are rubbing on her rear tyre as she had lost both screws that hold it to the frame and it had all slipped back. Such a loud noise!
    So some bush mechanic-ing took place and we pushed on

    So we have been riding through loads of gravel (aggregrate) works... Such scenery!    Les mer

    technik museum

    So we spent bit of time looking around Speyer Technik Museum...
    Lots of engines, cars, trains, planes, tractors, boats, spacecraft... Pretty cool (but actually it was very hot today)

    Rest day in Otterstadt

    Relaxing day off the bikes, with slow start and then visiting the local lake for swim and games in arvo

    So I did some math today... and my total kms stands at 729km (over half way!)

    I have a reasonable level of excitement as we are heading to worms tomorrow... I can't wait to visit a worms supermarket, or a worms church, or a worms cafe!!
    (Illy tells me it is pronounced essentially as 'warms'...but smeh i will keep calling it worms)    Les mer

    on to Manneheim

    We crossed the river again by bridge at Mannheim

    So we got caught up in some epic roadworks around BASF plant in Ludwigshafen (the plant being really more like a mini city, and I probably should of been more excited to be riding around and through it given my area study (but I wasnt cause of the lack of adequate diversion signage...gosh))Les mer

    to Worms

    Anyhoo we made it to Worms and enjoyed the arvo there...
    We did 48kms today

    Worms is fairly interesting town when it comes to religion... Martin Luther (Gilands can help anyone out who is confused who he is) was summoned to Worms and my understanding was decision to excommunicate him was made here (as outcome of the Diet of Worms)Les mer

    Rüsselsheim

    So we staying in Russelsheim... (In a weird little apartment)
    There is a conference on in Frankfurt that has taken all the accommodation in a 35km radius
    (We wanted to stay in Mainz)... We went to to Mainz for dins and to have a look around

    So we did 62km today!    Les mer

    Romance town

    So last night wasnt great...
    I think we can safely say that will be our most expensive but easily the crappiest accommodation for our trip...
    Everyone had a pretty average (and very sweaty) sleep...

    Anyway- early start (in the dark) to catch a train in to Mainz and we were on our way...

    Illy and I headed off as the sprint team to beat the heat...
    Whilst I was standing with the bikes outside the supermarket in Etville, waiting for Illy, I was chatting to a lovely older German man. He had asked if we were touring and where we were going etc. I told him that I had found the last few days a bit boring scenery wise and he said "thats ok- because you are just about to ride the most romantic part of the Rhine, the scenery is fantastic"...
    Which was right but also was especially funny due to fact that Illy and I were riding alone today (after getting the pleasure of sharing a bed in the weird craphole apartment the previous evening)

    We rode along a path on the Rhine for most of the day, and it was pretty nice scenery!    Les mer

    Castle town

    We crossed the river to Bingen (by ferry), and we entered in to a world of castles at every new bend and turn..
    So picturesque!

    Sankt Goar

    Then on to Sankt Goar...
    We did 68kms today...

    The others were not far behind... (Sherelle had a flat today)
    Our accommodation has very adequate air flow so all are happy.

    Illy and I went for a wade in Rhine this arvo... Sandy bottom, and less than pristine waters this far down

    St Goar is a small tourist town... Shall be nice to relax here tomorrow    Les mer

    Rest day in Sankt Goar

    After a late start, we then dropped our bikes off for service and caught the train up the hill to visit the castle.

    on the River

    So all six of us headed out of St Goar...
    We got a couple of kms out and Berns bike continued making its funny clunking noise, so the Parrotts headed back with Bern (to see Richard the bike shop guy), and Illy and I continued on.
    Today was much cooler (cloudy), and so made for nice riding. We got some lovely scenery today    Les mer
