  • Secret Lake, Kampot, Cambodia

    January 25, 2024 in Cambodia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

A massive reservoir that was built during the Khmer Rouge, another site in Cambodia that many people died building due to the poor workling conditions and bodies were disposed of within the lake.

  • La Plantation, Kampot, Cambodia

    January 25, 2024 in Cambodia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

A fantastic tour of a pepper plantation, taught us all about the different peppers they grow and variations in colour. We got to do a tasting afterwards, and omg the spice blends were amazing 😍

We had a lovely meal afterwards, enjoying food with the locally grown peppers and had ice cream to finish - with pepper obviously! Vanilla ice cream with red kampot pepper, and lime sorbet with red kampot pepper. Both worked surprisingly well, but I was left with the strangest sensation...my mouth was cold from the ice cream, but hot from the chillies!

  • Lok Yeay Mao, Kampot, Cambodia

    January 28, 2024 in Cambodia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

The large statue was in the middle of being cleaned, which was interesting to see! They were doing a good job and you could really see the difference. Got some odd photos of people cleaning giant hands now...

There were animals statues representing each birth year too, our tuk tuk driver told us that Luke is a dog and I'm a monkey.

Not pictured, actual monkeys trying to steal the offerings at the temple and getting shooed away by security.

  • Wat Sampov Pram, Kampot, Cambodia

    January 28, 2024 in Cambodia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

A very odd mix of buildings in this small area, from relatively new temples to much older ones. Lots of other buildings seem to be half made, or not in use anymore although there were still lots of people around.

Views were spectacular though, and the older buildings were ornately made.

  • Bokor Hill Station, Kampot, Cambodia

    January 28, 2024 in Cambodia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Another odd building, which had been built as a casino by the french and then abandoned. Urban explorers found the deserted building and it gained in popularity, leading it to be reopened as a 4 star hotel but keeping the outside with the same abandoned look as much as possible.

This was an odd place to experience, as there was lavious dinner settings for guests, and private pools and sunbeds - yet surrounded by a seemingly abandoned building with tourists taking photos. Although possibly a better experience than at night where this must feel very isolated, and so far away from the busy town.

    Another stunning view point though!

  • Domnak Preah Bath Monivong, Kampot

    January 28, 2024 in Cambodia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Another odd set of buildings, the ones closest were in bad shape and the ones in better shape were past some bushes! As this was later in the day we didn't fancy pushing our way through, and had little information what these buildings used to be as well.Read more

  • Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    February 1, 2024 in Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Colourful and bright steps leading up to a huge cave with multiple temples. There were 272 steps, apparently, but the climb wasn't too bad as there was plenty of monkeys to either keep away from, or be entertained by.

The cave was ginormous inside, with light flooding in from an opening in the top. There was various areas with offerings being made inside.

Inside the cave the monkeys had replaced by pigeons and chickens - we presumed it was too humid for the monkeys, no explanation for the chickens although just standard to find them in South East Asia!

  • Thean Hou Temple, Kuala Lumpur, Mala

    February 1, 2024 in Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

I loved this huge Buddhist temple! It was higher up on a hill so had fantastic views of the city, while there was lots of different areas to explore around the temple too. The design was striking with mostly white and red, but the central building exploded with colour on the inside where people were praying, giving offerings, and getting predictions for the coming new year.Read more

  • Guan Di Temple, Kuala Lumpur, Mala

    February 2, 2024 in Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

A small Taoist temple we stumbled upon while looking for Sri Maha Mariammam Temple. It was magical stepping inside with the incense burning and the offerings being made. The bright colours and designs are similar to some temples we visited in Hoi An, but this felt more authentic.Read more

  • Sri Maha Mariammam Temple, Kuala Lumpur

    February 2, 2024 in Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Beautifully intricate, and boldly colourful this temple was fun to see in the middle of the city. There was a wedding going on when we visited, and we got chatting to a local who recommended an Indian restaurant nearby so didn't look around too much and headed towards food. Priorities!Read more

  • Georgetown, Malaysia

    Feb 3–9, 2024 in Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

Georgetown was a lively mixture of so many difficult cultures and time periods. There was obvious signs of the English colony, but with the added additions of sights, smells, and sounds coming from Little India (with some fantastic food!), Chinese temples and clan houses dotted around, and hanging lanterns for the lunar new year. Parts reminded us of Phuket, others Hoi An, and yet it still had a charm all of its own.Read more
