    June 3

    June 3, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

On this day, we went to Custer State Park. The scenery was beautiful. Pronghorn and bison were visible often. We drove Iron Mountain Road, which has tunnels that were placed strategically so that you could see Mount Rushmore through them. The second stop was Mount Rushmore, of course. Theo was with us, and dogs were not allowed in, so we took turns walking up to our and taking pictures. Next, we went to see Crazy Horse. The museum had so much to read and see. The monument itself could have been skipped for another 20 years. It's been in construction since 1948 and nowhere near completion.
We slept in the car in a Walmart parking lot and slept better than the first night. The mattress is made for the car, not a tent.

  • June 4-9, part 1/3

    June 4, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Jackson Hole, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone seeing the most amazing scenery. We shared our time between a hostel and a hotel.
It is baby time, and we saw our share. Black Bears, Elk, Grizzly Bears, Mountain Goats, Moose, Big Horn Sheep, Coyotes, Pronghorns, and Bison. Unfortunately, we didn't see any wolves. Went for a hike around Jenny Lake, even though I was sure I'd be eaten by a bear. Came around a bend to a Moose eating her lunch.Read more

  • June 9-11, Hoodoo you love

    June 10, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Bryce Canyon was a totally different view than previous days. The colors were phenomenal. We hiked the rim trail from Sunrise Point to Bryce Point the first day.
Hoodoo formation; Hoodoos don't grow like trees but are eroded out of the cliffs where rows of narrow walls form. These thin walls of rock are called fins. Frost-wedging enlarges cracks in the fins, creating holes or windows. As windows grow, their tops eventually collapse,  leaving a column. Rain further dissolves and sculpts these limestone pillars into bulbous spires called hoodoos.Read more

  • June 9-11 Hike into the amphitheater

    June 12, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Our second day at Bryce Canyon, we hiked the Queen's/Navajo Loop, which took us down into the amphitheater and back out. Where we have an up close view of The Queen Victoria, Thor's Hammer, and Two Bridges. Afterwards, we went to lunch and took a nap. Headed back out at 11pm for star gazing. Unfortunately, the moon was so bright, and the Milky Way was faint. The stars were still wonderful!Read more
