Cycling journey to the west coast. To Seattle.

The plan is to ride across the country to Seattle a distance of ~ 3,000 miles. I am William "Bo" Kendall an avid cyclist since my paperboy delivery days as a kid growing up in Mentor-on-the-Lake and currently residing in Hinckley, Ohio. WTK June 2025

Completed the Ohio to Erie Trail 326 mile to Cincinnati. Starting to head north. Although, staying up lake tonight to fend off Raccoons with a branch. They keep stepping out of the woods to visit the campsite. Tied the food up in a tree.Read more
Bo KendallLots of hills out of Cincinnati. Met a nice bike club cruising in Cincinnati. Ride over the bridge to Kentucky just to do it. Dip tires into Ohio River to complete Ohio To Erie Trail !!!

Patrick joined the Narrow Path Cyclist Team from Alabama, he made bluberry Pancakes fir breakfast. We passed through a covered bridge while another bridge was closed and a detour. Traveled into Indianna where it is a leading producer of popcorn.Read more

Cardinal Greenway , Indiana's longest rail to trail bikeway. Rolling into Muncie where David Letterman went to school. Lunch at Savages brewery. Lots of corn fields.

A good day Cycling to Bass Lake after a stormy night. The sun dried things up and back on the road. Mostly quiet farm roads with a deer running next to us through a soybean field, then into the woods. Hickory Hills Campground with entertainment watching the animal farm.Read more

Continuing rolling through the Indiana countryside. Pic of farm and horses approaching to investigate the Cyclists and ask for apples and carrots. Which we didn't have. Stopped for cold drinks at a gas station.
A Trucker stopped to chat while we were lying down in the hot parking lot. He told us that "Just looking at you is making me tired." Well, it was a hot day.

Arrived at a Narrow Path trail right away. Goal to get to Joliet for needed bike repairs. Much of Illinois travel was on Narrow Path like Lackawanna trail. Finished the day drinking a beer with the team. Chris, Patrick and Ger. Note: Jack had to go home to California, so team of 4 going forward. To quote Papa Kendall, "This is one hell of a trip" - Roll On!Read more

Starved Rock camping

La Salle, IL
Steady 51 mile ride to Starved Rock for camping. Nice consistent ride with majority of the miles on dirt canal trail. Chris had a bolt sheared on a rack. A lucky stop at Ace hardware on Sunday where the broken bolt was removed and replaced. Many thanks to Patrick and Ger, were we did not starve at Starved Rock as they cooked a gourmet dinner. Our camping neighbor Julie has a great dog - Hailai to greet us.Read more

Hickory Grove camping

Steady 51 mile ride with 15 day activity. Local farmer came to street and gave us a bottle of cold water which was greatly appreciated. The riding was half on road with many large corn and soybean crops. At some point, the crops were being dusted by airplanes and helicopter. At that point, we decided to head back to Hennepen trail during the hot afternoon. Some equipment issues when Chris got a flat tire along the trail.Read more

Crossed Mississippi river into Iowa

56 miles along the Hennepin canal gravel trail to Mississippi river and Rock river.
Lunched in Geneseo with an italian sub by the Old Rock Island train depot. Crossed the Mississippi River via ChannelCat ferry to Davenport, IA or 'Couch' as some call it -lol (credit to Laura). Welcome to Iowa - Bike on 🚴‍♂️Read more

Iowa City, staying overnight in a camper

66 miles today with 1,500 ft ascent to arrive at Iowa City. Difficult riding today on gravel roads with a 20 mph strong headwind. A bike hospitality group call Warmshowers helped with lodging allowing us to stay at their back yard Silver Airstream. Thank you !

Note to add to Starving rock visit, our camping neighbor Julie has a great dog - Hailai who greeted us there.

Steady ride today with cooler temperatures, 54 miles with a elevation challenge of 1,947 ascent.
Woke up in the airstrean with a good night rest. The owner Pete helped us clean the gravel road grime off the bikes. Bikewash and chain lube. Thank-you! It is nice to have a clean set of wheels to start the day.
Today started on a park bike trail, then back onto dusty gravel roads. While buying a dozen sweet corn, the farmer mentioned that Iowa has the most gravel roads in the USA.
