We thought we’d venture out seeing the temps dropped 5 degrees. Lol. We went & looked at the historic gold mine which operated between 1893 & 1917, producing about 60,000 ounces from 500,000 tonnes of rock. Mining ceased here but as been set up as a tourist attraction . The main gold-bearing ore was approx 400 metres long & up to 80 meters wide & extended from surface to a depth of 100 meters. The water in the base of the pit is natural groundwater . The colour is dark due to the presence of iron leached out of surrounding mineralised rock in the 1950sa guy called Jim Dunn who was a Peak Hill identity, pumped the groundwater up through the old mine workings & precipitated the copper onto scrap iron to firm a saleable copper productもっと詳しく
