  • Lake. Eucumbene

    January 5, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

So much appreciating this cool 25 degrees & cool breezes. Glad to be out of 40+. The lake hasn’t been full in 17yrs. It’s 9 times bigger than Sydney Harbour. Would be magic to see it full & everywhere covered in snow in winter. We’re out & about tomorrow visiting the famous ski resorts where it all happens in winter, rightly named “ Perisher Valley”, lol There’s trout here if your lucky enough to get one. Lol. Catch you all tomorrow.Read more

    January 6, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Woke up last night cold had to hunt down a blanket lol . Temp plummeted to 8 degrees, quite a shock to the body after 25+ nights. High today will be 22 degrees, so out with the jumpers. It’s staying in the low to high 20s for a week or so while this cold snap passes through. Better make the most of it before the air cons back on flat out. LolRead more

  • Adaminaby & Providence Portal

    January 14, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Adaminaby is the whole town they moved in 1950, house by house to make way for Lake Eucumbene ‘s water rising due to them building a dam & flooding they old Adaminaby town. In the centre of this town stands the BIG Fish. Then we went onto Providence portal which is Eucumbene’s most northern point. The Portal is where the tunnel ends which brings the water from Lake Tangara which is on the Murrumbidgee. It’s all part of Snowy Mountain Sceme . It’s again a huge area but only a small stream flows at the momentRead more

  • Eucumbene Dam

    January 16, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Finished in 1958, to service the Snowy Hydro Scheme. This is the largest Dam in the Snowy scheme. Amazing to actually see this with your own eyes. Would be more impressive to see it all in full flow. Whilst we were here Shane managed to talk to a guy who works for Snowy Hydro & he explained that today he was on watch with 2 way radio because the other bloke was fitting new lights down the shaft which is 140 metres deep . Lucky he had a lift so no climbing down a rope or ladder. LolRead more

  • Cooma Correctional Centre

    January 22, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

This prison is one of the oldest working prisons. We visited & met those who are forced to be there & those who choose to be . It was built in 1870,& located only 100 metres from Cooma’s main streets, you would be forgiven for thinking it’s a historical museum instead of functioning penitentiary. There are 2oo inmates serving from murder to assault. They spend 18 hrs a day in their cells, & the cells are locked each day at 3-45pm & don’t open again till morning. The old prison still with heavy metal doors under iron lock & keys. The last time major renovations was close to 60 yrs ago. They’re 70 staff to keep the men in line. In the textile wing prisoners make underwear, prison greens, & other garments. This prison opened on 1st Nov 1873 with 31 cells , in 1876 it was reduced to a police jail & a temporary lunatic Asylum. It then re opened on 8th March 1957 & closed again in 1998. Re opened yet again Nov 2001 after 20% increase in prison population between 1995 & 2001. This prison is Minimum & medium security for inmates held in protective custody. Like... former police officers, prison officers & other high profile inmates who would be at risk in a general prison. Very interesting to visit & given a tour with a inmate.Read more
