    Motsu Ji Temple

    Mōtsū-ji Temple, located in Hiraizumi Town, Iwate Prefecture, is a Tendai-sect temple built by the Ōshū Fujiwara clan. It is known for its grand temple ruins. In particular, its Pure Land Garden, which preserves the appearance of the late Heian period almost completely, is highly valued in the history of Japanese garden design. In 2011, it was inscribed as part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site “Hiraizumi: Temples, Gardens and Archaeological Sites Representing the Buddhist Pure Land.”Read more
