    Mile 1658.1

Short day on trail (5.8 miles) with time to rest and restore in Manchester VT. It’s a super cute town! Highlights for us included two nice meals at local restaurants, ice cream and board games at a café, a resupply trip to the grocery store, pool and hot tub time, mud masks in the hotel room. Browsing the local gear shop.Leer más

  • Bog Bridges

    10 de junio de 2025, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

These simple wooden walkways are helpful to get through swampy areas… BUT they are incredibly slippery when wet! I was being careful and I slipped so many times and fell at least twice today. Yikes!

  • Sunset on Baker Peak

    10 de junio de 2025, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

As luck would have it I was traversing the ridge of Baker Peak at dusk (2868ft. Green Mountains, VT). It was captivating beyond words.

  • 🌜 Lost Pond Shelter

    10 de junio de 2025, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

    Mile 1672.9

Long day of hiking, my foot/ankle feels not-so-great after days of tricky rock hopping and several dramatic falls today😭 The wooden bog bridges are super slippery and everywhere in this section- 2 forward falls on these (hopefully my wrist doesn’t get sprained again) with countless close calls. I also took 2 “death drops” in the mud, landing on my back. Oh boy. Those were not painful but super annoying and definitely humbling. I had to rinse off in the stream somewhat blindly and ultimately arrived at the shelter wet and still a little muddy. I was able to squeeze in and sleep in a dry space without setting up a tent which I was grateful for.

14.8 miles of slip and slide style hiking in the mud and rain.

  • 🌮 Taco Tuesday

    10 de junio de 2025, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

It’s Taco Tuesday and I’m a lucky guy! I have an avocado and some hummus… these are luxury on trail because they are heavy and/or fragile. I forgot to eat them yesterday (maybe because of the rain?). So this is a respectable offering, tofu “turkey” slices, avocado, lemon dill hummus, salt&pepper. Score: 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮 5/5. I’d eat this at home. 😉Leer más

  • 🌜Camping at Minerva Hinchey Shelter

    11 de junio de 2025, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

    Mile 1687.8

There is a new shelter here but I arrived kind of late (8:30pm) and didn’t want to disturb people who were already asleep. Apparently the old shelter was pretty rough- I see notes in the map indicating a porcupine was eating the wooden structure😂, among other shortcomings.

Long slow day of hiking with foot/ankle pain, trying to keep it slow and steady after all the mayhem in the mud over the last couple days. This pace afforded me lots of time for photos and I took a nice long lunch at a beautiful pond teeming with salamanders (they were fun to watch).

My pals hiked ahead and have a lead of about 10 miles at this point. I wish I could keep pace but realized that I just needed to take care of myself as a priority.

In my last half hour of hiking I encountered 3 black bears on trail- 2 cubs and mother… I made loud sounds the cubs quickly ran up a tree- mother retreated into the woods making a huffing sound but remained watchful 😬. Eventually the cubs scrambled down and disappeared into the woods and she thankfully followed them. Quite amazing to watch from a distance but I kept and eye on trail behind me all they way to the shelter just in case- they were gone.

13.2 miles of hiking in beautiful weather, finally!

  • 🌜Cooper Lodge at Mt Killington

    12 de junio de 2025, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

    Mile 1701.9
14.1 miles of hiking today to arrive at this funky, beat-up, old shelter. Apparently it gets a lot of vandalism due to easy access from the ski lift 🤔

Today was another day or taking it slow and trying to be intentional with almost every step. My ankle doesn’t feel better but it also doesn’t feel worse. I might step down the mileage goals again tomorrow depending on how I feel in the morning. Also considering a day of rest if necessary- we’ll see.

I loved hiking along the streams all day through the coniferous forests. It reminded me of the Smokys a lot. I took a long, long break at the Stone’s Throw Farmstand in Shrewsbury VT to enjoy lunchtime snacks and cold local beverages (including maple syrup soda!!). I could have stayed all day, loved the vibe there. Today I hit mile 1700 and also the marker/indicator for 500 miles away from Mt Katahdin. 🥳 amazing!

  • 🌜24 hours in the Shelter

    16 de junio de 2025, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

This shelter was my home for 24 hours. My ankle didn’t seem to be getting better (sprained) so I wanted to give it some rest. In the evening I was joined by hikers Trademark and Metric and that made the time go faster but honestly it felt good to eat snacks and nap for 24 hours like it was my job. 😂 this location apparently used to have a cabin on it that likely burned down, but the chimney remains and there were some interesting artifacts on the mantle. Short day of hiking (about 6 miles) to reach my recovery shelter.

  • 🌜Dowds’ Country Inn (Lyme NH)

    17 de junio de 2025, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

I hiked 0.9 miles out of the woods under the supervision of two nurses who were day hiking and just happened to discover me at my shelter. True trail angels! They were so sweet to drive me to a couple spots and find me the best hotel option in Lyme NH. Plan today is still laying low and resting my ankle. I’m staying the night here and researching some ideas for tomorrow just in case.
Swelling and pain are down significantly, no bruising… decent mobility and weight bearing… I just don’t want to do anything careless before entering what’s often regarded as the most challenging stretch : The White Mountains. There are several significant peaks coming up in the next couple days! Stay tuned!

  • 🌜hampton inn-white mountains, Lincoln NH

    18 de junio de 2025, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Trying to give my right foot one more day of rest… I opted to pop over to Lincoln NH - a long ride in a car. Before I left I found vegan pizza in Lyme, which was kind of a miracle- it’s a very tiny town. Foot feels stiff but not painful and swelling is down. Watching carefully. Reunion with my pals and dinner in town. There is a heatwave forecast coming up soon (mostly Monday) and we hope to have enough elevation that day to avoid the worst of it. Making plans for the next couple days. Stay tuned.Leer más

  • 🌜 Eliza Brook Shelter

    Mile 1816.4
This was my first full day of hiking after some rest and it was not easy terrain for easing into it. I fell behind almost immediately and never caught up to my crew. Here’s what’s going on: I really need to plant this right foot solidly with each step to avoid twisting it again and that means my pace is extremely slow and deliberate. I did get a supportive compression sleeve to help keep things where they belong, and there is no swelling. Pain is way, way down… but… yeah, I’m not walking quite naturally yet. There are some tents set up here but it looks like I have the shelter all to myself! Huzzah!Leer más
