Mitten im Nirgendwo

Frisch geduscht ging es für eine vorerst letzte Nacht in Richtung Omahuru zu einem freien Campingplatz. Außer uns war keiner da und es war herrlich. Der Campingplatz war eine große Wiese mit Toilette, Tischen & Bänken und Feuerstellen inmitten des Te Urewera - Nationalparks (Urwald). Nach einem schönen und ruhigen Nachmittag wurde es langsam Nachts und wir verkrochen uns im Auto, da es nachts immer noch ziemlich kalt wird. Wir spielten Karten und lasen aus einem Buch, bis wir plötzlich aufschraken. Um unser Auto herum machten sich auf einmal komische dumpfe Geräusche breit und das Auto fing leicht an zu vibrieren, da von draußen Schritte zu hören waren. Sofort sagte keiner von uns mehr ein Wort und wir schalteten unsere Lichter aus. Unter Herzklopfen versuchten wir in der Dunkelheit zu erspähen was um unser Auto herum vor sich ging und nach kurzer Zeit hatten wir eine Antwort: PFERDE!!! Man war das ein Schreck! Am nächsten Morgen standen 10 Pferde gegenüber des Campingplatzes, welches erneut ganz nah zu uns herüberkamen. Das eigentlich gruselige dieser Nacht war jedoch, dass nachts 2 mal ein Jeep mit Flutlicht gefahren kam und alle Ecken ausleuchtete, als wenn sie nach iwas auf der Suche waren, wonach wissen wir leider bis heute noch nicht.
Nach dieser erlebnisreichen Nacht ging es für uns am nächsten Tag weiter nach Opotiki zu unseren neuen Gastfamilie, die wir über HelpX gefunden haben.

In the middle of nowhere

Freshly showered we went for a initially last night to a free campground in Omahuru. No one was there, except us. The campsite was a large meadow with a toilet, tables, benches and fire places situated in the middle of the Te Uriwera national park. After a nice and quiet afternoon we decided to go into the car cause the nights outside are still very cold. We played a card game and read from a book till we suddenly got scared. We heared strange noises around us and the car starts to vibrate as there were steps to be heared from the outside. Immediately none of us spoke a word and we turned off all our lights. With our hearts beating we tried to figure out whats happening around the car and soon we got an answer: HORSES!!! That was a little bit creepy! In the next morning we saw about 10 horses standing on the other side of the campground which again came over very close to us. By the way the creepiest thing at this night were the two Jeeps with floodlight which came two times that night and lightend up all corners if they were searching for something. Unfortunately we still dont know for what they were searching.
