  • Fish feeding

    March 2, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

Giant Trevally and small Yellowjacket fish live in the marina and seem to know that they are going to be fed at 10:30am every morning.

There were approximately a dozen large GT’s which are quite aggressive with each other when trying to get at the food.

Apparently there is a much bigger one, twice the size of the others that lives in the marina but doesn’t come out for the feeding as the small fish are not worth his while…

  • Whitehaven Beach

    March 3, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

An early start today with breakfast in the pacific restaurant. No interruptions from the cockatoos today as we were sat slightly indoors which meant they didn’t bother people too much.
It was then time to head back to the room to freshen up ready for the Helicopter ride.
At 10:15 we headed down to the adventure lounge to check in and the. We were ferried to the helipad by one of the buggies.
After a short safety demonstration we met our pilots. Laura and Lee had Rosie, and Paul and Syd had Jack.
After putting on our seatbelts we were up and away. A super smooth take off by Rosie saw us flying high above the resort and over the many islands to whitsunday Island where Whitehaven beach is located.
It was a great flight, beautiful weather over the blue coral sea, with many sightings of sea turtles and rays.
After a 15 minute flight we landed safely on Whitehaven. A stunning 7 kilometre beach with pristine white sand that is 98% silica which makes it cool to the touch even in 30+ degree heat.
Whilst the pilots were setting up a blanket and umbrella we enjoyed a stroll on the beach. The water was so warm and amazingly clear. We saw lots of fish and a couple of rays in the water whilst Paul had a swim.
It was then back to the umbrella to stay out of the heat of the day and we enjoyed some sparkling wine and soft drink whilst taking in the amazing view.
After 90 minutes the pilots came a packed everything away and took us back to the helicopters for our return flight.
Amazing views both ways, what a great flight!
Laura had a great time and despite a slight fear of heights, throughly enjoyed the helicopter flights.
It was then back to the resort and a relaxing day by the pool.

  • Relaxing in Cabana 4

    March 3, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Finally in the Cabana that we wanted. But, Pat suggested that Cabana 3 is a better position. Lol

What a relaxing day, chilling out in the cabana to stay out of the heat, with short stints in the sun on the sun beds.

The pool was great, slightly cool at first but lovely once you got in. Paul and Syd did a few laps of the pool whilst Laura sat on the edge. She may have even taken a selfie or two!

A very enjoyable day for everyone to chill, to up their tans and enjoy the amazing scenery.

  • Sunset and Dinner at Amici

    March 3, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Another amazing sunset in Hayman Island. The nights draw in quickly and it is like someone switching off the lights, but just before it goes dark there have been some amazing sunsets.

Awesome colours in the sky, with reds and oranges most nights looking out over the water.

At 7:15pm it was time to head off to Amici, the Italian restaurant at the resort.
We had pre booked a table in the corner, but as it was so hot and humid that day, we moved to the much cooler private dining area which was much better.

Laura enjoyed a mocktail of Mango and Pineapple which she loved.

Dinner was great, but none of us could finish it. Dad had the world’s biggest 4 cheese pizza!
    Delicious but way too big.

  • Relaxing in Cabana 3

    March 4, 2024 ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Fortunately Syd saved the day with the allocation of the cabana. The staff were very concerned that Mr Smith had very strongly requested Cabana 4 on the first day. But this decision was changed yesterday as Pat stated that Cabana 3 had better views and access to the pool.

The professional card players are positioning themselves to be the overall winner. Laura won 5 out of the 6 hands and then kindly gave Syd and Lee some tips on how to play.

The weather was extremely warm and humid in the afternoon but cooled with a nice breeze in the afternoon.

A very chilled relaxing time for our last day on the island before we head to Noosa

  • Dinner @ Bam Bam for the last night

    March 4, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 29 °C

An earlier dinner at Bam Bam for our last nights meal. We had a great table overlooking the pool and Barbecue Bay behind.

Laura, Mum and Dad had the sweet and sour chicken with rice, whilst Lee had the crispy pork and Paul had the Pad thai. The meals were awesome and it was a great spot to watch the sun go down.

Laura took the opportunity to take some great selfies by the pool.

  • Departing Hayman Island

    March 5, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

After an slightly bumpy ferry cruise from Hayman Island to Hamilton Island we arrived at the airport for a 2 hour wait before the flight departed.

The airport is fairly basic, but we were treated to some entertainment via two Chinese people arguing. They looked like mother and daughter and they were having a right old argument in the lobby.

After a quick boarding on the Virgin flight, we were up and away to Brisbane.

  • Dinner at the Surf Life Savers Club

    March 8, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

We had drinks at Rowan and Peter’s place (Paul and Lees friends) just around the corner from where we are staying, then we went for dinner at the surf life saving club on Noosa beach.

There was a Nippers Surf Lifesaving charity raffle and we won 4th prize! A bottle of wine.

After dinner we had an ice cream from the Gelato shop and then headed back to the apartment for some drinks on the rooftop deck.
