We had the day to explore Santa Fe, one of my favourite US cities. We went to St. Francis Cathedral, built in 1886, that has a statue of the first North American Indian woman to be declared a saint. The white interior of the church was influenced by a French-born Archbishop, unlike the adobe structures common in Santa Fe. We also went to Loretto Chapel, which contains a mysterious spiral staircase built without nails, dowels, or any visible support. Of course we had to stop at the Palace of the Governors where the Native Americans display and sell their artwork and jewellery. I showed restraint and bought just one turquoise inlay pendant crafted by a woman from Santa Domingo Pueblo.Read more
