    Berlin Hauptbahnhof

    September 27, 2022 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

    Starting towards Munich.
Because of hiccups with the other trains, our train was completely full so we had 1st class floor space.
Luckily it was a quite fast train.

  • Munich

    September 28, 2022 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

While the rainy weather made it easier for us to leave Germany I still had a lot of fun at the Oktoberfest. Maybe a little too much...
Unlike the weather, my had made it harder to leave on the next day.Read more

  • Day on the train from Munich to Rome

    September 29, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Well, this was a day on the train.
Leaving Munich at the morning through through the Alps over the Brennero pass towards Bologna and taking the Frecciarossa towards Rome.
Actually a quite fast connection but it seemed we hit a thunderstorm and lost our fast spot in the schedule. It became one of the slowest trains I was ever in, but we got one hour more out of our first class seats.Read more

  • Trastevere

    September 30, 2022 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

After Gianicolo we walk down into Trastevere, have a meal and see a chain dragged down by hundreds of padlocks.
It seems to be a very strong metaphor, probably something about true love producing a lot of scrap metal in public places.Read more

  • Going to Sicily

    October 7, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

In the morning we hurried to the train station since we were a little late, made just barely just to see: Our train was even later.

But when we got on the train: we finally could watch the countryside of Southern Italy and Sicily go by.
Since it was a nonstop train, we didn't had to change but left it, for a stroll on the ferry to Sicily.

  • Starting with rain ending with a view

    October 9, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

The day continued with yesterday's rain more or which became quite tropical at points.
But when it cleared, we had good food with an even better view.
Then we got an even better view over Cefalù when we climbed up the cathedral.

And I can not end without mentioning Patrizia, who sold us the tickets to the Cathedral and was probably the nicest person in Cefalù. We had a long and pleasant conversation and already miss her.

  • Going to Agrigento

    October 13, 2022 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

One of the few rainy days.
We left Palermo with the regional train straight through the middle of Sicily towards Agrigento, a nice town on a hill with fantastic views and steep climbs.
Also, we got back to our apartment 5 minutes before the heavy rain.Read more

  • Discovering Agrigento

    October 14, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

After resting in our best apartment so far, we started to visit the historic city and the cathedral. Lots of climbs and stairs but it was worth it.

  • Bye Agrigento, ciao Catania

    October 17, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

On the move again. This time with the regional train to Catania.
We had to change in the middle of nowhere, but met another fellow backpackers. I mean: Who else would change in Roccapalumba?

  • Catania

    October 18, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We discovered the night live of Catania, the food and the best Spritz in the world: The green Bella Ciao Spritz. A creation of a local barkeeper. Try it if you are in Catania.

  • Hello ferry, my old friend

    October 20, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

We said goodbye to Catania and Sicily and took the InterCity to Salerno. The neighbouring ferry was called Scilla and to my disappointment, neither our ferry or the next was called Charybdis.
We then took the bus to our apartment in Raito a part of Vietri.

We also learned how to cope with a broken Phone.

  • Vietri

    October 21, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We took our walk to Vietri, ate very well and had a long conversation with the owner of the Restaurants, since we were the only guests at this time.

When we were back, we witnessed the Jewel of the Seas maneuvering out of port by making a turn on the spot.

Of course I could not read the name of the ship from kilometres afar, but that's what ship trackers are for.
