• Day 16 - Iceland's 80th Birthday 🇮🇸

    June 17, 2024 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday was how relaxed it is in Iceland. When we went whale watching I was expecting to have a sit down safety briefing.. nope not here lol we jumped on boat, no life jackets and got told to just stay in the boat 😅

Another sleep in today 🙈 no one wants to get up haha

We found all the kids a bike each and off we went down the little village here to view the Herring Museum. This was very interesting the Herring trade back in day brought in 40% of Icelands whole economy at stages. We got to see boats that were used and also the sleeping quarters the woman and men boarded in.

Kids needed ice cream after that so we went to a kool shop that was a barbers and a cafe, had paninis and ice cream on waffles 😋

Then we went to the neighbouring town where there were some festivities going on for their national day. Soon after we arrived they opened the big waterslide up and my gosh it was huge. It was an old ski jump. The first few kids literally got some air as they went over the jump. Ari was brave enough to give it a go 👏 more than once!!

We then went to the beach and met with some of Dagny's friends as they like to take a dip in the sea 🌊 🥶 Guy braved the cold and went for a dip! Brrrr!!

This was alovely hour or so but then suddenly the wind got up and it was freezing so off home to pop some tea on, Andrew took care of this so Danny, Dagny and me when for a nice 7km run. Danny ran on ahead on the way back and as we were coming past the wee pond (just has melted snow running into it) she said she was gunna go for a swim, so I said ah why not I try also 🙈 so we hopped in our bra and undies into 2° water 🥶 then walked the last 100m home half naked for a warm shower! I was surprised I could do this 😅

We had another lovely dinner I even shared a small Red Wine with Dagny to finish another lovely day.
The weather here to day was just beautiful 😍
