    Day 1 - Auckland

    June 2 in New Zealand β‹… ☁️ 16 Β°C

We flew up to Auckland a day early as you never know what kind of weather it is going to be this time of year!
Flight was excellent and we reached our Hotel. We entered our room and noticed it hadn't been serviced from the previous occupant! πŸ™„ we soon got a new room!!

We woke this morning and had a few hours to kill so took the kids to Rainbows end via the shopping mall. Our Uber turned out to be a Tesla so that kept Guy happy! We had a fairly good day at rainbows end, kids had lots of fun 😁

We have now hit the airport, picked up our foreign currency, checked in, been through security. Time for some games with the kids whilst we wait to board. Hoping we can all catch some good zzzz on this 17 hour flight, it will be a challenge, tomorrow you will hear how we do!! πŸ™ˆπŸ₯΄πŸ€£

Day 2 - Auckland to Dubai

    June 3 in the United Arab Emirates β‹… πŸŒ™ 30 Β°C

We made it! 17 hour flights are not right up there on my favourite things to do πŸ₯΄ but we all handled it fine, prob got about 5 hours sleep each πŸ™‚ I was surprised at the route we took in the plane to get here you'll be able to see in the Pic.

We arrived in to 30 degree heat at 530am. It is quite a funny set up at the airport, you disembark the plane and then have to hope on a train to get to immigration and baggage reclaim!
We jumped in a taxi to our hotel, you will see the Pic above and this is located on Palm Island, and OMG it is amazing here. Rooms are lovely and everything is so well kept! I swear the toilet paper is 6 ply, alot softer than our 3 ply 🀣

We were super lucky to be able to check in at 7am and we all had a small nap before heading to the water park. (Which is part of this hotel) This place is wicked we had so much fun. Will go back tomorrow and ill get some more footage! The temp reached 40 today our feet were burning from the concrete even with aqua shoes on 😳πŸ₯΅

Big down fall here is the price of food πŸ™„ so expensive so we have to be very selective what we buy. Example Danny and I shared a roast meal, kelsey had pizza and Guy an American hotdog and that cost us $150 nz dollars!!

Everyone is planning an early night tonight, poor Guy has not been well with his cough today, hopefully with some AB's he will bounce back, we have a busy day tomorrow!

    Day 3 - Dubai

    June 4 in the United Arab Emirates β‹… πŸŒ™ 32 Β°C

I dont even know where to begin! What a magical day we've had 😍 and another very HOT day πŸ₯΅

Our day started with a breakfast that was truly out of this world, you name it you could find it to eat including a chocolate fountain! πŸ™Œ

Breakfast was followed by some more epic rides in the water park, a lot less busy today but equally as scorched feet on the concrete! πŸ₯΅

A hours break was needed before we headed into the heart of Dubai to the mall this mall is the biggest in the world 🌎 Guy found a lego store so he was happy, him and Kelsey created their own minifigures 😊 we looked in many shops and then had some dinner. I think we probably visited 20 of the 1500 stores πŸ€”

At 7pm we went outside to do a 30 min lake boat ride around the Burj Khalifa ( the tallest tower in the world) and watch the fountain show. This was absolutely stunning, words can barely describe, a moment we will never forget.

After another long day I think we will all sleep very well and we cannot wait to tell you of tomorrow's adventures πŸ˜‰

Day 4 - last day in Dubai

June 5 in the United Arab Emirates

What an action packed day we have had! πŸ₯±

Day 4 started with a delicious breakfast again πŸ˜‹ then it was time for us to go swimming with Dolphins!!!! 🐬 what an amazing experience, we got to make the Dolphins do amazing tricks and pose with photos etc it was very cool, definitely one off the bucket list ticked!

After a couple more water slides we took ourselves back to our room and was surprised one of the cleaners had made our room full with towel art, it was so very cute!

Our afternoon consisted of some lunch, then a walk through the Aquarium that is part of the Hotel. After that it was time to be picked up by a vehicle to take us on a Safari tour, we actually had no idea what to expect, we drove about 1 hour then I driver took us over the Sand dunes in a Toyota Landrover.. we were going ridiculously fast and it was actually terrifying! 😳
As we started they had to let air our of the Tyres for more grip and when we stopped for a photo opportunity they pumped them all up again!
What an amazing thing to experience being in the middle of the 🏜 desert, after our photos we carried on driving to where we had a buffet dinner after we rode Camels!! πŸͺ very fun 😁
    Poor Guy fell asleep lol

Dubai has been amazing, everything is so clean and everything here sparkles ✨️

Day 5 - Dubai to Amsterdam

    June 6 in the Netherlands β‹… πŸŒ™ 12 Β°C

Alarm rung at 4:15am today 😴 and we were up and off to the airport! 7 hour flight from Dubai to Amsterdam, the flight was great today and we had lots of yummy food on board.
We landed and went through passport control, collected our bags and literally walked out of the arrivals area, we've found navigating the airports so far to be very easy, I think NZ must be very strict.

Helen was there to meet us at the airport, so nice to see a familiar face πŸ˜€ feels weird being with Helen in Europe and not in Nz!

Grabbed a taxi to our motel and checked in. We have two rooms and ours is nit even big enough for us to lie down both suitcases lol!!

Guy hasn't been very well with a horrendous cough so after a short walk to grab coffee he went to bed for a couple of hours. Once we woke him we then left for the tram station and caught a tram to Anne Franks house/Museum. We all enjoyed this visit, quite sad however when you think of what they must have gone through πŸ˜•

A couple more Dolpin pics might be on this as I just got the code back to download them all 😍

We've just finished our dinner at 10 pm πŸ™ˆ now some time for some more πŸ’€ 😴

    Day 6 - Amsterdam to Germany πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

    June 7 in Germany β‹… πŸŒ™ 12 Β°C

Everyone had a well rested night last night, once we all rose we packed our bags and headed off across town to do a Canal tour. This was a great way to see alot of the city in a small space of time. Some interesting house prices, $4000 nzd per month to rent a 40 square Metre room! Also to buy a car park it is $14 nzd per hour 😳
I am not sure what to make of Amsterdam πŸ™ˆ you have to be very aware of your surroundings at all times otherwise you are likely to get run over by a bike or a tram 🀣 very bustling city!

We had a yummy lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe πŸ˜‹
It was then time to head back, collect our bags and head on the 2 hour train ride to Germany.

We drove a short 15 mins to Helen's house 🏠
What a stunning area she grew up in, it is very beautiful 😍
We spent a few hours on the deck area with a drink and a delicious BBQ dinner. Not a breath of wind and around 17 degrees, the perfect setting πŸ‘Œ
It is a lovely experience that we are here as Helen's parents also visited us in NZ.

I am very surprised how day light it is a 10pm 😲

    Day 7 - Salzbergen & Munster

    June 8 in Germany β‹… ☁️ 19 Β°C

Oops I am 12 hours late for this! We were watching a movie and I fell asleep πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

    Day 7 another amazing day.
Danny and I woke very early so we went for a lovely run through Helen's local town, it is just the prettiest here!

After a wonderful breakfast Helen's family had organised us to visit a local dairy farm! It was a great experience to see another farm outside of nz, they milk 130 cows that calve all year round, they are milked through 2 DE Laval robots. They do not use Semex lol apparently used to but did not like them 🀣 they have 200 acres but the cows never ever go outside in their lifetime.
Over here as you drive along there are many paddocks but no fences to be seen, all land is used for cropping.

Helen's dad has a few special toys in his basement ans brought out a remote control boat for Guy to have some fun with, we went on a short 1 min walk to the nearby pond and had dun zooming it around!

About 2pm we departed with Helen and Malte for Münster a city 50 mins away. This is where Helen has her flat and does her studies, we had a quick visit to see her flat and then went into the city. We parked in a parking area that goes 10 parking floors DOWN under the ground πŸ™ˆ

Here we met up with Johanna and Chris who spent Christmas with us!
This was so special to be spending the afternoon with these 4 lovely humans ❀️

Munster is a beautiful city, it was destroyed in the 2nd world War but rebuilt with much beauty I love it!

We headed to a lake where we got peddle boats and we went boys in 1 girls in the other this was heaps of fun but also tiring lol
After we sat in a bear garden for a drink before heading to a burger restaurant for a yummy dinner and cocktails.

    We had the best day!

    Day 8 - Sunday Funday

    June 9 in Germany β‹… ☁️ 12 Β°C

We Zipped into Sunday with a visit to the tree top climbing experience near Helen's town.
Malte and Helen took us to this forest at about 10am. We all got fitted into harnesses and gloves and away we went. We had to do some training before we were allowed on the actual course. We went on a series of different courses. Some had single wires we had to cross, some had steps, some we had to crawl through things and there were many ziplines. As we got more daring the higher up in the trees we were! πŸ™ˆWe had so much fun here we did not get back home until 2pm! I think the kids could've stayed all day!!

Safe to say we were all pretty knackered after that big morning it was time for a wee rest.

Malte was playing hockey at 5pm so we popped to the town next door about 10 mins away to watch. Malte's team have not lost a game yet this season and they came out with a good result today 3-1 πŸ‘
I found it interesting that there were not barriers between the turf and the public watching! 😬

By the time we did those two activities the day just slipped away and it was already dinner time. We ordered some yummy takeaways πŸ˜‹

Guy managed to find a spare moment to go and fly Helen's dad's very cool drone in the field next door, lucky boy! (He is still not very well πŸ€’)

    Guy's Birthday πŸŽ‚

    June 10 in Germany β‹… 🌬 10 Β°C

They say laughter is the best medicine and we've had our fair share today 🀣

A rainy day today and Monday started with a trip to the doctors to get Guy checked out. Good news is no pneumonia but a crackley chest so I managed to get some steroids for him, she said they do not give them out lightly and I said I only needed 3 tablets and she gave me 20 🀦‍β™€οΈπŸ€·‍β™€οΈπŸ˜…

Guy woke this morning to come down stairs to some very cute decorations Helen and her family had set up πŸ₯° We celebrated with some chocolate cake and candles πŸ˜‹ also playing lots of games throughout the day, many laughs had.

After doing some packing we set off for a visit to Bentheim Castle 🏰 this was a very cool experience.
The castle dates back to 1050 and features one of the earliest depictions of Christ back in year 1000 (pictured).
We visited many parts of the castle with dungeons 30 metres deep that we threw a coin into, saw natural water wells up to 23 meters deep. Prison cells and many more. When we arrived it was teaming with rain but by the time we left the sun shone for some good photos πŸ₯°

After our visit to the castle when went for dinner on the lake. Such a beautiful setting. We were lucky to get menus in English this helped alot 🀣
Dinner was absolutely delicious I had beef tenderloin done in a mushroom sauce with homemade hash browns and Creme Brule for dessert πŸ˜‹ Guy was surprised with a special birthday dessert 🍰

Helen's dad had brought along his remote control boat to use in the lake after dinner. All was going well until Guy got it stuck on the rope about 5 metres from the edge 🀦‍♀️ we didn't know how to get it back without someone going for a swim! And to make it worse the restaurant had big glass windows so we had a huge audience watching our scene πŸ€£πŸ™ˆ
We found a very long branch but poor Raimund ended up having to walk into the lake at least 3 metres to get the branch to reach, he ended up very wet! The laughs we had knowing that the whole restaurant was watching πŸ˜…

Over the past 2 days I have had two locals ask why we would want to holiday in this area lol. I guess it's a bit like us asking why do you visit stratford πŸ˜… But Salzbergen and surrounding areas have not disappointed. I am in love with the gorgeous towns we have visited and the activities we have done, I feel very lucky to have been thrown into the local culture in this beautiful area. Germany πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ part one has not disappointed!

Our time with the Helen and her family has come to an end as we have to say goodbye in the morning, but Helen, Malte, Petra and Raimund have made us so welcome in their home and gone above and beyond to make sure we have a wonderful time and are looked after πŸ₯° we cannot thank them enough 😘

Day 10 - Salzbergen to Hamburg

    June 11 in Germany β‹… ☁️ 12 Β°C

Today started with Goodbye, goodbyes are never easy πŸ˜₯

We trained from Münster to Hamburg. The train was 2 hour 15 mins. When we pulled into Hamburg central we were greeted by Kim and Celina and a Kiwi flag! πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ
Such a cool sight and it was sooo great to see the girls again! πŸ₯Ή

We managed to lug all our bags through a couple of train stations (worst part of travelling is the bags!) We were in the car and off to our Air B&B which is situated only 600m from Kim's family home.
We settled in and had the cutest Welcome banners in the Lounge πŸ₯°
After a delicious lunch Kim's Mum had made we hit the shops! πŸ›

Hamburg is a huge city and we had so much fun exploring all the shops, especially in one of the malls. Again I am taken with the beautiful architecture of the cities in Germany πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ πŸ₯° Hamburg is quite pretty.

After many shopping bags had been full πŸ™ˆ we found a yummy burger place to have some dinner, it was nice to sit down we had walked many miles πŸ˜…

We trained back home where we played some card games before settling in for the evening as we have lots of exploring to do tomorrow!! πŸ˜πŸ‘
