    Harrietville is a former gold-mining town, located 25 kilometres south of Bright on the Great Alpine Road and at the base of Mount Feathertop, with a population of about 488.

    As it was very windy on the mountain and our favourite camping spot on Mt Freezeout had been taken we drove down to Harrietville (510m above sea level). The Harrietville Caravan Park is on the west branch of the Ovens River with shady trees to camp under. By about 5pm the forecasted rains came and the temperature dropped. In a short respite we walked to the nearby pub, but it was closed so back to camp and sheltered under our awning until the rain eased.Read more
