• Organ Pipes, Gawler Ranges National Park

    Leaving Streaky Bay on Streaky Bay Road north to Eyre Highway for a couple of kilometres and then north again on to the gravel “Princes Highway” into the Gawler Ranges NP. Characterised by the jutting rhyolite pillars and hills topped in large, rounded granite domes, the Gawler Ranges were formed by a dramatic, short-lived series of volcanic eruptions about 1,600 million years ago. First stop Organ Pipes which is the best spot to see these pillars. The flies were particularly annoying today - you can see one in one of my photos.Read more
