    5 июня 2024 г., Норвегия ⋅ ☁️ 1 °C

Morning! We left the ice and snow at the mountain pass on Hordaland, moving onto towards Eidfjord on the terrificly fun to drive Hardangervidda scenic route. We even had to "turn left at the roundabout" midway through a long, long tunnel!
After a typical lunch of Scandinavian hard bread (crackers), cuppa soup, cheese, and fruit, by the waters, we drove to the Norway Nature Centre just outside Eidfjord. Grassed roofs are everywhere, if you look closely there's a goat grazing on one and a tree growing out of the hut of another!
On the way, we stopped at the truly spectacular waterfall called Låtefossen. Two pounding falls meet and go through very old bridge arches to meet with waters from a third fall just metres up the road. Water vapour coats the dozens of tourists clicking photos while campervans, buses, and cars battle with each other, and passing semi- trailers, to grab one of the parking bays.
Eidfjord seems to be a firm favourite for Fjord cruises, with a giant cruise ship in dock. It must have woven its way through miles of fjords and around hundreds of rocky islands to get so far inland from the sea. Still, it was dwarfed by the scale of the landscape!
As the sun was up, against the forecast, we took the chance to drive up to an historic farm 550m up the near vertical mountainside at Kjeasen. In its day 11 school-aged children had to walk daily down to the valley for school and then back up!! Fortunately we drove in the tunnel - only allowed up on the hour and down on the half hour. It was so small!
After having had a few more wild camp stopovers, a rustic campsite back down on the Eidfjordvatnet lake was our reward! With hot showers and electric hook-up 🙏
We even had time for a game of Mexican Train, which I only mention because I won 😉
