Tim

So while we were at The Top of The World, we saw a fellow biking like Renée. We stopped to talk to him and found out he too was going to bike the Dempster. We chatted for a bit then carried on. That was the day we met up with Renée in Dawson so we told her about Tim. It was the first we had heard about anyone else crazy enough to bike the Dempster.

Back up a bit now, Renée got a little hooked on Japanese anime during university. So she decided to teach herself Japanese. She’s doing quite well for a beginner.

The next night the three of us are pulling into the campground and who do we see? Tim! So we start chatting about cycling etc. and wouldn’t you know it, Tim is from Japan.

So now we start seeing Tim or his bike everywhere we go. Towards the end of “resupply day” we run into him one more time. We invite him to dinner at the camp site, cooked some pork chops and potatoes over the fire and had a great evening. Renée taught him how to light a fire with flint & steel (which he did first try), and he taught Renée some Japanese.Read more
