    First day at sea

    August 10, Mare del Nord ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

    The cruise begins with a day of navigation in the Nordic sea. Despite some boat movements, we switched to cruise mode, enjoying the ship entertainment, food and drink. It's a full day of relaxing!

    First gala night

    The first night is immediately a gala night, so we suited up with our best dresses to enjoy some sparkling wine and the amazing show at the theatre. After dinner, why not have some fun dancing? An amazing way to close the first day at sea!Read more

    As our ships approached Molde, we went out on the upper deck to have a look at the fantastic view on the Norwegian coast. The weather is a little foggy, but this just makes a more scenographic atmosphere. Vibrant green and colorful houses are scattered along the coast as we slowly cruise toward Mold harbor.Read more

    Mount tatt mine - bergtatt

    August 11 in Norway ⋅ 🌬 12 °C

    During our stop in Molde, we chose to visit the Bergtatt marble mine in mount Tatt. After a short bus transfer, we arrived at the mine entrance, we dressed up with helmet and life jacket and we were ready to go down deep in the tunnels. The experience starts with a fascinating boat tour along the underground river, surrounded by a light and music show. There's a fantastic atmosphere while you reach a stop deep inside where locals give you some historic information and you can taste the fresh underground water. The marble produced here is the purest in the world and light goes through it creating amazing light reflections. A short, but great experience!Read more

    Sand night show

    After our excursion, we refreshed and we are ready to enjoy some nice drinks and the theatre show. Tonight, we have an unusual performance of music and sand art, that brings you around the world as love pictures are created with the sand and light.Read more

    Day @ sea and solar eclipse

    August 12, Mare di Norvegia ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

    This is our 3rd day and another one spent cruising while we moved toward Tromso. We woke up late and enjoyed a delicious breakfast and then a lazy day relaxing around the ship. Before dinner there was the opportunity to see the solar eclipse. Even if the sun was playing hide and seek behind the clouds, the view was stunning and we had some nice shots out on the upper deck. We finished the day with another fun show at the theatre and we are now ready for the next stop in Tromso.Read more

    Arctic Cathedral

    During our stay in Tromso, we took an extra walk to visit the Arctic Cathedral. This is a modern church built following the local tradition with a pointy triangular shape. From the church hill there is also a nice view of the fiord, with some extra steps!Read more

    A walk around Tromso

    August 13 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

    Today we took some time for a walk around Tromso. After a good breakfast, we disembark and took a 50 min walk to the city center. This small town is full of colourful houses and a lovely place also thanks to intense tourist traffic. The view on the fiord from the local bridge was amazing as well as the central avenue full of flowers and colours. It was a lovely sunny day and a great taste of Nordic city.Read more

    Olhallen brewery and pub

    August 13 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

    Reaching the far end of Tromso, we stopped to recharge for a moment at the Olhallen pub. This is the beer authority here in Tromso with almost 50 different beers, both local and international. The inner atmosphere is the one of a traditional pub, but with a little polar bear touch!
    After a refreshing pint and a freshly baked bretzel, we are ready to walk back to the ship.    Read more

    Day @ sea - Neptune party

    August 14, Mare di Norvegia ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

    Today we spent another day at sea while we cruised from Tromso up to Longyearbyen and Svalbard islands. After a delicious breakfast, we are ready to join the Neptune party. To celebrate crossing the arctic pole circle, the cruise team organized various fun activities and a fantastic music party. Time to get painted and start dancing!Read more

    Longyearbyen

    August 15 in Svalbard and Jan Mayen ⋅ ☁️ 3 °C

    We woke up this morning in Svalbard islands, the north most inhabited land in the world. The drizzle and polar icy air create a unique atmosphere all around the city of Longyearbyen. After a good breakfast, we spent the morning walking around the city in the polar air. Life here is hard, with little comfort, dominated by ice most of the year. You can see around the remains of the old mining industry which in some spots creates the sensation of a phantom city. The natural landscape still is stunning, making you feel the power or earth forces as they shape the land all around you. To commemorate the event we stopped at the local post office to send back home some cards from this amazing place.Read more

    Isfjorden excursion to borebreen glacier

    August 15 in Svalbard and Jan Mayen ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

    In the afternoon, we embarked on a boat excursion to explore Isfjorden. The trip got us north west in the fiord to Borebukta bay and Borebreen glacier front. We were lucky and spotted some seals, whales and puffin birds along the way. The Borebreen is an active glacier, growing up to meter per day. The glacier front is majestic. Standing in front of it you can feel the power of this giant and see it developing in real time on the sea, full of cracks and folds. The sun behind created a magic atmosphere. A fantastic experience here in the far north!Read more

    Day @ sea - whales and relax

    August 16, Mare di Norvegia ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

    This is another day at sea as we cruise back from Svalbard to Honningsvag in the north of Norway. During the day a pack of whales crossed our route and moved along the ship for a while, giving us a last chance to admire these fantastic creatures in their natural world. During the day on the ship there are plenty of activities, but our favourite is relaxing, some good drinks and enjoying the night show :)Read more

    Today we arrived at Honningsvag, a small city that is the base for tours going to North Cape. Before we started our excursion to the north most point of Europe, we spent a couple of hours visiting the town center. The city is developed around the harbor, with fishing, tourism and naval services being the main activities. There are some nice shops around and the traditional houses make a colourful atmosphere.     North Cape

    August 17 in Norway ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

    After spending the morning in Honningsvag, we jumped on our excursion bus for a trip to the North Cape. It is not actually the most north location of Norway, but for sure the most popular one. Unfortunately the day was particularly foggy and a little rainy, even for Norwegian standards, so we couldn't enjoy the best view from the cliff. Anyway, the fog creates a mysterious atmosphere all around the site and we had the chance to take a picture of the iconic globe and the monument of children. While there we also had time for a stop at the visitor center and delicious waffles with brown cheese. On our way up and down we met a local Sami family and friendly reindeer. Maybe we were not that lucky with the weather, but it was a wonderful emotion to be here!Read more

    Tasting local fish snack

    During our walk around Honningsvag, we saw a lot of places selling the traditional dried salted fish snack... So we couldn't resist mixing with the locals and decided to take the risk and have a taste. It would not become my favorite, but it's not such a bad bite (quite smelly though)Read more

    After a day spent relaxing on board, it's time for the white night. So we dressed up with our total white and we enjoyed music and drinks on board. The lucky duck followed us and she was quite a drinky duck this time ;)Read more

    Day @ Sea - F1 racing and gala night

    Today is the 2nd consecutive day at sea as we move south from Honningsvag to Olden. Hence, it's time again to enjoy relaxing and fun activities on board. This time I decided to try the F1 racing simulator, where I proved why I'll never be a pro racer :)

    This morning we arrived at Olden sailing through the long narrow fiord. We woke up early to enjoy the amazing views as the ship slowly moved along the fiord at sunrise. The green sides and the sunrise light created a stunning moment and a magic atmosphere perfect to take some great pictures.Read more

    Travel to Briksdal glacier

    August 20 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

    Based in Olden, we decided to visit the nearby Briksdal glacier. It is a 40 mins bus ride from the city to the hiking starting point, along a way that goes deep inside the fiord. It's a wonderful journey passing nearby lakes and surrounded by steep rocky cliffs with waterfalls jumping from the rocks.Read more

    The area around Olden is dominated by a massive glacier complex propagating in the surrounding valleys. The Briksdal glacier is one of the most popular that you can visit in the area. After a short bus ride, we reached the hiking start point. From here to the glacier front it's a 40-50 min hike, but it's going to take much longer because there are so many amazing views along the way. As we climbed up we encountered small and big waterfalls, with green wood and colorful flowers all around. The water melting from the glacier creates an amazing atmosphere and a crystal lake at the top. The glacier is now much smaller than it was in the 1800 but still a fantastic view!Read more
