    CATACOMBS Di Dometilla : bus notes
    - Is a paleo Christian grave (original Christians of Rome) 2,000 yrs Roman Empire, Roman pagiensum. Many gods!
    - All other religion illegal
    - Other religions has to burry outside of the walls.
    - cremation of the body was the law.
    - Christians has to follow the same rules for hundreds of years. Christians did not like because you need your body for resurrection.
    - 4-5 layers/ floors of dead bodies for space.
    - 2nd century to 4th century (313 AD) Constantine made Christianity legal. Only official religion allowed. This is when the catacombs were built.
    - Barbarians was anyone not Roman. They took over the catacombs and Christians Stop using them. No valuables with crypts BUT they bought back bones from the barbarians for a few hundred years.
    - By 9th century, church ended this by taking bones and closed catacombs.
    - Forgotten till 1600. Man and cow, cow falls into the caticombs then rediscover.

    - Church built at entrance in the 15th century. (Before catacombs)
    - Long halls to get around. Single or poor was burry in the hall. Rich could afford a room...qubiculquium. (Family hole)
    - Symbols on the tomb cover is important- used for getting into the after life. Pagans used to help find their specific afterlife’s. (Warriors, Rich, women and Poor)
    - Cyro symbol- Greek christos (monogram of Christ) unpopular for 300 years. (Circle with Greek letters, cut like a pie.)
    - 50/50 chance you’ll live to 6yrs.
    - Tufa stone- volcanic soft ground to burry them in.
    - Rich could afford fresco markings- paintings on wet plaster.
    - Bones move to pantheim by Christians, kept safe from barbarians.
    - Body’s wrapped in cloth soaked in lime to rot faster. Liquified body’s. Really bad smell!
