    Pre-prep for vacation

    29 luglio 2018, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 93 °F

    Packing…✔️
    Mapping our routes... ✔️
Our holy binder of notes and tickets...✔️

So five days out from vacation I (like the crazy I am) decided to pack like we are pretending to leave the next day. So glad we did, because I learned about the IDP (International drivers permit) needed to drive in Italy. Thankfully AAA handled it in 20 mins. Yea.... now we can drive into the Aviano area and show Kayla where she was born.

I also learned it’s best to order currency sooner than 5 days from a trip. Cross my fingers the Euro gets here before we leave. 🤑

Kayla has been great while I run around like a scatterbrain with to-do reminders and wondering what we may have forgot.

  • Darn weather!

    1 agosto 2018, Stati Uniti ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

Well... looks like we are going to miss our next fight to Rome. Sounds like bad weather. 😞 Once we land I’ll have to make some calls to see when the next flight, tomorrow, will have seats for us.

    To be continued.....

Well, we missed our flight. Rebooked for tomorrow at 9:50pm. 😖

LILY: Kayla is reading your book "The hate you give". She's already into 30 pages. Mentioned it's good but "someone died already, what the Heck!".

So after the mishap of missing our flight we woke up a bit more positive. I was able to confirm our hotel in Rome will not be canceled and the morning Vatican tour we planned was reschedule for the next day.

So I got to researching what Boston has to offer. Perfect....They have a 2 mile “Freedom walk” showing the history of the town. (See map) Lets see how many places we can hit! 😁

  • Our Colosseum tour.

    3 agosto 2018, Italia ⋅ 🌧 81 °F

So our first part of our tour was the Colosseum… Tour guide was good but it was a lot of information thrown at us so here is what we remember.
(Note we are so 😴 so we will do our best)

    - Poor people entered last and had to sit in the top rows. 6th floor.
    - Gladiators actually don’t kill each other because that would diminish the profits of their owners.
    - It took 10 years to train the gladiators and if I remember correctly christians were not gladiators.
    - At certain times animals would be brought from the bottom to defeat one another and/ or people.
    * It was a people activated rope pulley system to hoist the animals up to the fighting level first floor.
    - During world war two in the 1930s they added additional Brick and mortar to the structure to help keep some of it standing.
    - A large statue of bronze or gold was built outside the Colosseum. It was ransacked by thieves and melted down.

  • Tour part 2, outside the Colosseum

    3 agosto 2018, Italia ⋅ 🌧 79 °F

As we tour the outside of the Colosseum we got rained on. Refreshing but Kayla is not comfortable with the thunder and lightning. Somethings we learned about the outside.

    - Caesar was killed and stabbed by 19 to 20 of his political advisers.
    - Small part of it was an Area blocked off from the rest of the world which held 3 Virgin women. The baths were for them only!
    - Most of the area has been dug down 12 m into the earth more to find more buildings in the area.

    4 agosto 2018, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 90 °F

NOTE: No photography was allowed inside the Crypts. Please Forgive any miss spellings or short bullet points.

    Crypts of the Capuchins notes:
-St Francis, 90Ad. As a teen he left family by stripping naked in the center of town and handing his clothes to his father to become a monk.
-3 monk vows... obedience, poverty, selabit.
    - 16 hundreds they move their poor church (because of rats) to current location. Head munk asked his brother to build them a church.
*Traveling to new church came with his 3,000 monk skeletons.
    - Message: children bones on ceiling... deaths will cut us down. Time flies... pun with bones.
2nd cript: Capuchins did all the decorating.
    - mummification, believe a pure soul does not decay.!
Soil: They buried their dead in jerusilim holy soil and after 30 years bodies are dug up, dried, boiled and stuck on the wall. Up until 1870 (Italy was unified at this time) new leader said no more. Makes it illegal to even replace a broken one.
