    A day at Cuastecomates, Jalisco

    January 20, 2019 in Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Cuastecomates is a small community 3 km away from Melaque. Walking uphill on the way there, we encountered a herd of cattle running down in the opposite direction.
On Sundays vendors walk back and forth on the small beach, selling assorted items to beach goers. That day we counted 28 different types of products and services for sale, including hammocks, massages, hair braiding, clams and oysters, shrimps on a stick, fruit cups, sticky coconut confections, jewelry, carved crucifixes, bottle openers, fridge magnets, life jackets, bathing suits, dresses, shirts..... Three or four musical groups walked around all afternoon performing for families at their tables. Pictured are 2 musicians who were part of an 8 piece mariachi band.
The state of Jalisco provided a grant to create the first beach in Mexico which is accessible for people with disabilities. This unique project was completed in 2016.
