  • Time for laundry

    17 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

Unfortunately, one of the realities of travel, especially long term travel, is you gotta do laundry.

Laundromats are the best for quick laundry. The dryers are hot and the washers wash a cycle in 20 minutes. All the clothes are finished at the same time and there's a big table for folding.

We shouldn't have to do laundry again until we get home.

  • Sites from Brookings, OR

    16 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 55 °F

The coastline here is very rugged but beautiful. The beaches are so dog friendly AND people pick up after their dogs which may be why the beaches stay dog friendly.

Tried to do a hyperlapse video of the sunset yesterday but a fog bank prevented the view of the set. I'll try again later. We watched the sunset from a pretty steep hike to Harris Butte. Our new motto for hard hikes is "Can a nigga get a switchback?" I like it better than last year's motto, "Embrace the suck".Leggi altro

  • Chetco Point

    16 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Chetco Point is a nice walking path with an overlook to the ocean. The City of Brookings turned their bare land around the water treatment facility into a park.

  • Damnation Trail

    15 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

This afternoon we hiked Damnation Trail to view old growth redwoods. It was supposed to be a 4.2 round trip but the bridge to the beach was closed. This was a pretty steep and lots of roots on the path so I had to watch my step.Leggi altro

  • Ender's Beach Trail

    15 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

Our first hike of the trip was a 1/2 mile down to the beach. Many wildflowers and evergreens. It feels and smells like Christmas. Current temp is 55 and it's very humid/foggy!

  • 4 mile quarry Oregon

    14 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

We finally made it to Oregon! Oh my gosh we drove forever and a day to get here. What a long day

We followed the signs but took a wrong turn and ended up 10 miles up a forest road to a snowmobile trailhead instead of the quarry. We thought about staying there but there was a lot of dead trees waiting to fall plus a bunch the forest service had already cut away from the road. We were afraid a tree would fall and trap us up the mountain.

Down we came to the quarry. Being as it's a friday, we expected quite a few campers. What we did not expect was the Redneck Rivera, Oregon edition. Who even knew Oregon had rednecks? I can get behind rednecks have a good ole time. What I cannot get behind is trashing a campground. I picked up a whole kitchen sized bag of trash in just the campsite we picked. This trash was in all of them so it's not like I could just leave it. This trash included dirty diapers, broken glass, bottle tops, and my favorite, pee-pee wipes. What the hell people?

So along with all of that, it was also a dustbowl. So. Much...Dust. add a wet dog to dust and you get mud. 🐾💩 Everything in the back of the camper was covered with dust. Everything had to be washed before I could cook. And I forgot my taco seasoning for last night's dinner

We moved sites a little later to one with a bit more grass but it didn't really help. The weather was chilly and home time was 10pm. We climbed in the bed after cleaning the dust from our legs and feet. Ah, time to sleep...but wait...its time for the redneck scream-off AND time to play your bass down low music really loud plus make sure your car alarm goes off at least 5 times.

At some point I dozed off. Sunrise is at 5:15 so before 5am we were awake. We made sure to make ALOT of noise as we packed up.

The area is beautiful but the rednecks have ruined it

  • Leaving Nevada, Entering Oregon

    14 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

Turned onto a 2 lane road that went thru ranchland. Not much of nothing out there. We drive and drive and drive through what looked like a desert or west Texas. No water, not much wildlife to see, no services either. Drove down a ridgeline with a 8% grade and that opened up into a wildlife preserve. I saw no wildlife.

This might not be labeled the loneliest road in the West, but it should be.

  • Rainstorm!

    13 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ 🌧 73 °F

We've been watch a storm building over the mountains to the west of us. The lightening was something scary to watch.

We had to pick up all of our chairs, tent, dog beds, stove, tables, and misc knick knacks like phones, sunglasses, laptops, etc and hunker down in the camper while the storm passed.

Thank God this is a campsite with power so we can run the fan!

  • Great Salt Lake

    13 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ 🌧 73 °F

Gonna hang out for the night. Gonna bring Chico and Baylor down to the beach later. Paula and I are gonna grill some steaks and have a few 3.4 beers. Lol

Edited to add: we were on the beach for about 2 minutes. Sand fleas like I've never seen and no-see-ums in the air. Me and the dogs are huddled under the bug tent, waiting for dusk so they go away. 😳😫Leggi altro

  • Gunnison River overlook

    12 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

We had no plans on where to camp on our "zero" day. We initially pulled into this city park in Montrose, CO. Free and a bathroom with running water right near a great park with an amazing river walking path. Unfortunately since they allowed 1 night free camping, there seemed to be too many unsavory elements. We checked iOverlander and saw two camping spots on some BLM land on our route and only about an hour away.

After a strenuous uphill climb thru some pretty rough roads we made it to the top and we rewarded with a campsite and million dollar views!

  • Durango to Silverton

    12 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ 🌫 61 °F

Heres some sites of the drive from Durango to Silverton. We went down a back road in Silverton and had a little picnic lunch with the mountains in the background. Stopped at a little brew pub called Golden Block Brewery. Pretty nice place.

Pulled over so Baylor and Chico could play in the snow. Chico was not a fan.

  • Pagosa Spring Healing Waters Spa

    12 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

The town of Pagosa Springs is such a cute little town. iOverlander app said there was a free hot spring here. We went off in search of it. The photo of the lady sitting near a nice creek is what the creek usually looks like. The video is what it is today. The free hot spring is flooded.

There are a bunch of spa resorts and bath houses. We chose Healing Waters for a soak in their hot tub, which is 100% mineral spring water from their own well. Temps hovered around 110 in the water. Super relaxing but now we smell the sulphur lol.

  • East Fork Campground

    11 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

We originally planned to stay at Park Creek Campground, possibly boondocking further in away from the established campground. The snow melt is happening so much later than normal this year. The creeks and rivers are so high!

When we pulled up, the bridge was out due to water. The whole campground was closed. 😖

IOverlander's app showed another campground not far that had boondocking sites by a creek. So we decided to forgo the established CG and make our way down the gravel forest road.

Remember I said they had a lot of water? Remember what happens to gravel roads during wet seasons? Yes, washouts and washerboard road. Goblin did fine but Cherub was suffering hard.

We got to a cattle crossing and decide to turn around as the CG was still a mile away.

Ended up paying 22.00 for East Fork CG. 22.00 for a pit toilet and a picnic table. At least the pit toilet was super clean.

Very quiet, beautiful stars, and you can hear the creek rushing in the background. It got pretty cold during the night. Probably in the low 40s.

  • Rita Blanca National Grasslands

    11 giugno 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ 🌙 54 °F

Pulled in pretty late last night to the Thompson Grove Picnic area within the Rita Blanca National Grasslands. Texas has only a small area of federal lands for free camping. Most land is privately owned. Heading out right now after a snafu with our propane tank. Seems like one of them lost a stem. Will replace in SLC. The main reason I wanted to stay here [besides the area is convenient to our route] is because the grasslands are dark sky areas. When we pulled in at 11 it was cloudy. Woke up at 3am and the stars were brilliant. Wish I had the skills to capture its beauty. Almost finished with our "Treksas" [trek + Texas].Leggi altro
